If the holiday decorations are already showing up in stores (they are), it’s okay to start thinking about the months ahead.

You walk into the store for school supplies or Halloween decorations, and there they are – Christmas trees, menorahs, ornaments, and twinkling lights. For many families caring for a loved one with dementia, this is also the moment another thought quietly arrives: “How are we going to do the holidays this year?” If you’re asking yourself that question, you’re not alone.

The holidays can be beautiful, but they can also bring new challenges for someone living with dementia, and for the family members who love them. Starting the conversation early can help everyone feel more prepared, more present, and less overwhelmed when the season arrives.

🍕 Power of Play: Learning — Pizza Making! 🍕Today, our residents rolled up their sleeves and became pizza chefs! We started by shaping our dough into the perfect pie and building up the crust. Then came the sauce, toppings, and plenty of creativity!

Each resident made three different pizzas to enjoy later: cheese, vegetable, mushroom & cheese, and pepperoni & cheese. 🍕🍄🧀🥦

Anyway you slice it, today was delicious! ❤️ Take a look at how hard our residents worked—and how much fun they had along the way!

📚As kids are heading back to class, we’re celebrating a different aspect of learning throughout August at Artis! On the dementia journey, learning evolves. The familiar routines of life can awaken long-held occupational and sensory memories. 🍪🔥 Campfire Goodness in Every Bite! 🍁
Today in Cooking Club, we made Burnt Marshmallow Brown Sugar Maple Cookie Bars—and they were so, so good! 😋

All the delicious flavors of a cozy campfire, wrapped up into one gooey, sweet cookie bar. A perfect treat to enjoy with friends! ❤️

🎸💙 ALL SHOOK UP! 💙🎸

We were all shook up today! 🎤✨ Our Elvis entertainer had everyone singing along and then we kept the party going with our Elvis celebration! Residents sang, danced, and enjoyed a delicious Elvis Cake—pineapple cake topped with cream cheese and walnut frosting! 🍍🍰🥜

It was a rockin’ good time! 🎶🕺💃❤️
