I have had the insight of experiencing BOTH an OB and an out of hospital midwife. The differences in care is so interesting! My favorite things about my care under a midwife were:
• Being able to text her directly with questions or concerns
• Extra long prenatal appointments
• Postpartum home visits
"The Midwifery Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.
The Midwives Model of Care includes:
♡ Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the [birther] throughout the childbearing cycle
♡ Providing the [birther] with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
♡ Minimizing technological interventions
♡ Identifying and referring [pregnant persons] who require obstetrical attention
The application of this [birther]-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section."

One primary difference between the two main models of care is in the medical model, the physician holds primary responsibility and authority. The midwifery model, however, views the birther as the primary responsible party for their own well-being and the well-being of their baby.
What has been your experience with the medical model versus the midwifery model of care?
