A big thank you to Noa and the Boston Police Department (Official) for bringing smiles and comfort to children at Franciscan Children’s!

As part of her Bat Mitzvah project, Noa collected more than 100 stuffed animals for Project Smile, asking her guests to help support her cause. She donated them to the Boston Police Department so officers could provide them to children experiencing difficult or stressful situations.

BPD then partnered with Noa and her mom, Heather, to share some of the stuffed animals with children at Franciscan Children’s.

We are so grateful for their generosity and thoughtfulness! Thank you, Noa, Heather and BPD, for helping make our kid's days a little brighter.

Nothing beats a night at Fenway Park! ⚾️ We’re so grateful to International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 103 and NECA Greater Boston for giving our students the opportunity to experience batting practice and cheer on the Boston Red Sox through the Bullpen Buddies program.

Since 2009, our patients, students, families and staff have enjoyed the field on our campus, WakeField, named after our friend and supporter former Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield. It has been a place where our Franciscan Children’s community has enjoyed celebrations, milestones, physical and mental health therapy, adaptive sports and quiet moments of reflection.

Soon we will break ground for our new clinical building, so we are now decommissioning the current WakeField. Don’t worry, it will return to campus in a new location!

This week at our annual staff barbeque, we cherished the many memories of WakeField and celebrated the man for whom it was named.

Last week, we celebrated International Day of Play with The LEGO Group! Three volunteers from the LEGO Group visited with kids in our inpatient mental health units, helping them build imaginative and colorful creations. The company gifted each child with a LEGO set.

Last week, Franciscan Children’s was happy to welcome Boston Red Sox players Jarren Duran, Connor Wong, Romy Gonzalez and Andruw Monasterio. They visited with our patients in the medical units and played kickball with some kids from our inpatient mental health unit.

Jarren Duran, who has openly shared his struggles with his mental health, spoke about the visit with our kids and his mental health journey.

A heartfelt thank you to our friends from the Yankee Clippers quilting club of Walpole for another delivery of beautiful, handmade quilts for our kids! They crafted 38 quilts and more than 20 pillowcases! Special thanks to Margaret Ransom (center) for making the delivery to our Child Life staff. We can’t wait to deliver them to our kids!

Born at just 23 weeks and weighing only one pound, Orhaan faced incredible challenges from the very beginning.

At Franciscan Children’s, he received rehabilitation, respiratory support, and developmental services to help him grow and work toward discharge. Throughout his stay, his parents also participated in hands-on training to prepare for managing his care safely at home.

Today, Orhaan is finally home with his family — a milestone made possible through the dedication, compassion, and teamwork of so many staff members who supported him throughout his journey.

May is . At Franciscan Children’s we care for kids with mental health challenges, so we know just how important emotional wellbeing is for everyone. Each year our Behavioral Health Services team hosts a Mental Health Fair for our staff – because it’s important for all of us to feel well mentally as well as physically.
