Last week, we celebrated International Day of Play with The LEGO Group! Three volunteers from the LEGO Group visited with kids in our inpatient mental health units, helping them build imaginative and colorful creations. The company gifted each child with a LEGO set.

Last week, Franciscan Children’s was happy to welcome Boston Red Sox players Jarren Duran, Connor Wong, Romy Gonzalez and Andruw Monasterio. They visited with our patients in the medical units and played kickball with some kids from our inpatient mental health unit.

Jarren Duran, who has openly shared his struggles with his mental health, spoke about the visit with our kids and his mental health journey.

A heartfelt thank you to our friends from the Yankee Clippers quilting club of Walpole for another delivery of beautiful, handmade quilts for our kids! They crafted 38 quilts and more than 20 pillowcases! Special thanks to Margaret Ransom (center) for making the delivery to our Child Life staff. We can’t wait to deliver them to our kids!

Born at just 23 weeks and weighing only one pound, Orhaan faced incredible challenges from the very beginning.

At Franciscan Children’s, he received rehabilitation, respiratory support, and developmental services to help him grow and work toward discharge. Throughout his stay, his parents also participated in hands-on training to prepare for managing his care safely at home.

Today, Orhaan is finally home with his family — a milestone made possible through the dedication, compassion, and teamwork of so many staff members who supported him throughout his journey.

May is . At Franciscan Children’s we care for kids with mental health challenges, so we know just how important emotional wellbeing is for everyone. Each year our Behavioral Health Services team hosts a Mental Health Fair for our staff – because it’s important for all of us to feel well mentally as well as physically.

They work closely with children and families to help patients regain or strengthen everyday skills after injury, surgery or other challenges - using therapeutic play to make progress feel natural and fun.
