PLEASE READ!!!!
Today, I want to bring two critical issues to your attention that could have a significant impact on both your access to chiropractic care and the future of chiropractic practices across Virginia.
As an active member of the Virginia, Tennessee, and national chiropractic associations, I work alongside other doctors to advocate for our profession and, most importantly, for our patients. We need your help.
Federal Legislation – H.R. 539, the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act
Congress is considering H.R. 539, legislation that would modernize Medicare's coverage of chiropractic services. If passed, this bill has the potential to expand Medicare coverage beyond spinal adjustments to include many of the medically necessary services chiropractors already provide, such as examinations, diagnostic imaging when appropriate, and therapeutic procedures.
If you believe Medicare beneficiaries deserve comprehensive access to chiropractic care, please contact your U.S. Senators and Representative and encourage them to support H.R. 539. Your voice can make a difference.
Virginia Issue – Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Reimbursement Changes
Equally concerning are recent reimbursement changes announced by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Virginia. These changes substantially reduce reimbursement rates for chiropractic physicians while not applying the same reductions across other healthcare professions. Such reductions threaten the ability of many independent chiropractic practices to continue providing the high-quality care their communities rely on.
This issue extends beyond chiropractors—it affects patient access to affordable, local healthcare. When reimbursement is reduced to unsustainable levels, small healthcare practices face difficult decisions that can impact staffing, services, and ultimately patient care.
We respectfully ask you to contact your Virginia state legislators, the Virginia Bureau of Insurance, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to express your concern and ask that chiropractic physicians be treated fairly and equitably. Even if your BCBS is not Virginia, we bill the insurance thru the state our office is located in so ALL BCBS policies are in this!!!!!
Most chiropractic offices are independently owned small businesses. We employ local staff, serve our communities, and work hard every day to provide quality healthcare. Fair reimbursement and reasonable Medicare coverage are essential to ensuring that patients continue to have access to the care they need.
Your voice carries tremendous weight. A phone call and/or email to your elected officials and insurance representatives can help protect patient access to chiropractic care for years to come.
Thank you for your continued trust, support, and willingness to stand with us.
Sincerely,
Dr. Todd Muncy
