What is pairing? ππ§©
Pairing is one of the most important first steps in ABA therapy. Itβs the process of building a positive, trusting relationship between a therapist and a child before focusing on teaching new skills or placing demands.
During pairing, the therapist follows the child's interests, joins in their favorite activities, and creates fun, positive interactions. Whether it's playing with trains, blowing bubbles, reading books, or engaging in sensory play, the goal is for the child to associate the therapist with enjoyable experiences, safety, and success.
Why is this so important? When a child feels comfortable and trusts the person working with them, they're more likely to communicate, participate in learning, and try new things. Pairing helps reduce anxiety, increases motivation, and lays the foundation for meaningful progress throughout therapy.
At Sunshine Academy, we believe every child's journey begins with connection. Before we teach, we build trust; because the strongest progress starts with a strong relationship. βοΈπ
