A Wonderful Book for Building Speech Skills & Confidence! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Sally the Snake Can’t Hiss” is a wonderful children’s book written by a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist. Not only is it an engaging and enjoyable read, but it also promotes speech and language development while encouraging persistence, hard work, confidence, and positive self-esteem in children. 🐍

The story is engaging from beginning to end, with wonderful illustrations and a fun rhyming text that makes the book flow beautifully and keeps young readers interested. I especially love that the story incorporates opportunities to target the /s/ sound in a way that feels natural and fun rather than simply like speech practice. 🗣️

As a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist myself, I also appreciate the practice pages included at the end of the book, which provide additional opportunities for children to work on their speech sound production at home or during therapy sessions. 💚

I cannot wait to read “Sally the Snake Can’t Hiss” with my own children as well as incorporate it into my speech-language therapy sessions with my pediatric patients. This is such a thoughtful resource that combines literacy, speech practice, and an important message about perseverance and believing in yourself. 🌟

I highly recommend this book for parents, Speech-Language Pathologists, educators, and anyone looking to support children’s communication skills while building their confidence along the way! 📖

✨ Two of my all-time favorite therapy materials… and for good reason! 🩵

As a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist, I love finding activities that are simple, engaging, versatile, and support meaningful communication. These two are always within reach during my therapy sessions!

🧩 1. Mr. Potato Head

Don’t let this classic toy fool you—it targets so many speech and language skills!

Some of my favorite ways to use it:
• 👂 Following 1-3 step directions
• 🗣️ Expanding vocabulary (body parts, clothing, colors, spatial concepts)
• 💬 Requesting and commenting (“I want the hat,” “My turn!”)
• 🤝 Turn-taking and social interaction
• 🧠 Answering WH-questions
• 🔤 Articulation practice by hiding target words under pieces or practicing sounds while assembling the character
• 🧠 Describing, comparing, categorizing, and problem-solving
• 😊 Identifying and discussing emotions by changing facial features
• 💪 Fine motor skills while manipulating the pieces

One simple toy… endless therapy opportunities!

📱 2. LAMP Words for Life (AAC)

LAMP WFL is one of my favorite AAC systems because it gives children a consistent motor plan for accessing language. Instead of learning where words move, children build automaticity by selecting words that stay in the same location every time.

I love using LAMP WFL to:
• 💬 Model language naturally throughout play (Aided Language Stimulation)
• 🗣️ Encourage requesting, commenting, protesting, and asking questions
• 📈 Expand communication from single words to phrases and sentences
• 🎯 Teach core vocabulary that can be used across daily routines
• 🤝 Support children with complex communication needs while honoring every form of communication
• ❤️ Build independence, confidence, and meaningful participation

One of my favorite combinations is pairing Mr. Potato Head + LAMP WFL! As we build together, I model words like put, on, off, more, want, help, look, funny, eyes, nose, and mouth—creating countless opportunities for authentic communication through play.

✨ The best therapy happens when learning feels like play and every child has a voice.

There is nothing more rewarding than hearing a child confidently sing and read along during a therapy session. 💙

Moments like these remind me why I wrote “Baby’s Story Time”—to create meaningful opportunities for connection, communication, and a love of books. Watching my patients engage with a story I wrote is something I’ll never take for granted. 📚✨

“Kai’s Superpower” was created from a place of love, advocacy, and admiration for the incredible person you are. Your strength, resilience, personality, and unique way of seeing the world have inspired not only me, but so many others through this story.
