Today, four of our own had the honor of representing Broken Bow at the Colorado 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Our group included one member of the Broken Bow Ambulance Service, one member of the Broken Bow Vol Fire Department, and two members who proudly serve on both departments.

Alongside thousands of firefighters, first responders, families and community members from across the country, they climbed the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center towers.

It wasn’t a race. It was a climb made in remembrance.

Each step was taken to honor the first responders who climbed those stairs on September 11, 2001, not knowing what waited above them, but knowing that people needed their help. 343 FDNY firefighters gave their lives that day, along with law enforcement officers, EMS providers and thousands of civilians.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their courage, their sacrifice and their willingness to answer the call when others needed them most.

We are proud of our four members for making the trip to Colorado and carrying a little piece of Broken Bow with them as they climbed in honor of those who never came home.

We climb because they climbed. We remember because they gave everything.

25 YEARS LATER… AND WE STILL REMEMBER.

Some calls change you forever.

September 11, 2001 was a day when the world watched in horror—but first responders did something different.

They ran toward it.

While people were running from the danger, firefighters climbed the stairs. Police officers moved toward the chaos. Paramedics and EMTs prepared to treat the wounded. Dispatchers stayed at their posts. And ordinary Americans stepped forward to help their fellow man.

They answered the call.

Many never came home.

Behind every uniform was a husband, a wife, a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, and a friend. They were people with families waiting for them—people who had every reason to be afraid, yet chose to stand between danger and those who needed help.

Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken that day. Hundreds of first responders made the ultimate sacrifice. And countless more carried the physical and emotional scars home with them.

As members of Broken Bow Ambulance Service, we know what it means to hear the tones, grab the gear, and answer a call without knowing what waits on the other side.

That is why we remember.

Not because it is simply a date in history.

We remember because their sacrifice became part of the history of every person who has ever answered a call for help since.

To the heroes who never came home—
We remember you.

To the families who lost someone—
We remember your sacrifice.

To the first responders who survived and carried those memories home—
We honor you.

And to every firefighter, police officer, EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, and public servant who continues to answer the call—

We stand with you.

May we never become so comfortable that we forget the price others paid for our freedom.

May we never forget the lives that were lost.

May we never forget the courage that was shown.

May we never forget September 11, 2001.

WE REMEMBER.
WE HONOR.
WE ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL.

BROKEN BOW AMBULANCE SERVICE
NEVER FORGET.

Well… that was an absolute blast.

Tonight we traded the ambulance for the ballfield and had our first softball game against law enforcement, and we couldn’t have asked for a better night.

There was some softball played. There were also some shenanigans.

We allegedly stole a base, and we don’t mean the baseball kind of stealing… allegedly.
A runner who got hit by a pitch received the level of care you’d expect from EMS and was transported to first base by stretcher.
At one point, a softball was found unresponsive and CPR was immediately initiated. Its current condition is stable.

And that was only part of it.

But behind all the laughs was something pretty cool. A bunch of EMS providers and law enforcement officers got together, gave each other a hard time, entertained a crowd, and just had some fun with the community we all serve for a good cause. The pink patch project is where the proceeds from this game go to, and we are so incredibly thankful for everyone that donated to the cause.

Thank you to everyone who came out tonight. Whether you played, helped organize things, worked behind the scenes, brought your family, cheered from the stands, or simply showed up to see what kind of nonsense we had planned, you helped make tonight what it was.

And a huge thank you to every player on both sides for buying into the fun and making our first game such a success. Nobody took themselves too seriously, everyone played along, and we think the smiles in these pictures pretty well tell the story.

We’re already thinking this might need to become a tradition…

Until next time, law enforcement. Looking forward to the rematch 😉
