Eating disorders don’t always look the way people expect.

They can show up as chronic dieting, rigid food rules, eating in private, over-exercising, intense body shame, or constant thoughts about food and weight. Many individuals appear high-functioning or “put together” while struggling deeply.

They affect people of all ages, sizes, genders, and backgrounds — and too often go unseen due to stigma and stereotypes.

Awareness matters. Compassion matters. Early support matters.

Eating Disorder Awareness Week

This week is a powerful reminder that eating disorders do not discriminate — and they do not have one “look.”

Eating disorders affect 30 million Americans across all ages, body sizes, races, genders, and backgrounds. Yet too often, individuals struggling go unseen or unsupported due to stigma, misinformation, stereotypes, and barriers to care.

The theme Every BODY Belongs calls us to:
✨ Challenge harmful assumptions about who “looks” like they have an eating disorder
✨ Reduce stigma through education and compassionate language
✨ Advocate for inclusive, weight-neutral, accessible care
✨ Ensure all bodies are treated with dignity and respect

At Nurtured Roots Counseling, we believe awareness is not just about information — it’s about action. The more we learn, speak up, and create safe spaces, the more we move toward earlier intervention, better outcomes, and true belonging.

This week, we invite you to join us in spreading awareness, sharing accurate information, and helping ensure that every body feels seen, supported, and valued.

💜 Today marks the first day of Eating Disorder Awareness Month 💜

At Nurtured Roots, we’re intentionally starting this month by shining a light on eating disorders—because awareness, education, and early support save lives.

Eating disorders impact people of all ages, genders, races, and body sizes. They are often misunderstood, missed, or minimized due to stigma and lack of education. That’s why this month matters.

✨ How we can support those who may be struggling:
• Listen with compassion and without judgment
• Avoid comments about weight, bodies, or food
• Believe people when they share their experience
• Encourage support from trained, eating-disorder-informed providers
• Continue learning about how eating disorders show up beyond stereotypes

📚 Why education is urgent:
The earlier eating disorders are recognized and understood, the better the outcomes. Education helps reduce stigma, increase access to care, and ensure people get the support they deserve—sooner rather than later.

This month, we invite you to learn with us, reflect with us, and help spread awareness. If you or someone you love is struggling, you are not alone—and support is available. 💜
