New research continues to reinforce why we are so proud to provide the PACE program at Community Care.

A recent U.S. Department of Health and Human Services study found that participants in the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) experienced fewer hospitalizations, fewer emergency department visits, and lower mortality rates compared to similar individuals in other integrated care programs. These findings highlight the value of coordinated, person-centered care that helps older adults remain safely and independently in their own homes.

This month we’re shining a light on Kathleen, a care manager at our Kenosha site who has been part of the Community Care team for 10 years! Get to know more about Kathleen below.

What is your job at Community Care?

Helping adults over the age of 18 with different disabilities continue to live as independent as possible in the community and at home and enjoy life. Also assess member needs to connect them with relevant resources and services

When did you first know that you wanted to pursue a career in this field and how did you get started?

Mom volunteered with Meals on Wheels when I was younger and in nursing homes and was always caring and loved helping others and continues to this day. I just followed in her footsteps because she is a strong caring woman and the best role model.

How did you find your way to Community Care?

I was looking for new opportunities in this field and to be open my mind in different opportunities.

What do you think is the most important skill someone in your position needs to have?

Compassion and strength.

What do you think is the best attribute you bring to your team?

I am very willing to jump in and do whatever is needed.

Do you have any strategies for dealing with stress at work?

Music and getting pampered.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in long-term care?

If you care about helping others, have a heart, and truly want to help make a difference and enrich lives, then long-term care is a great place to be.

How would you describe Community Care to someone considering working here?

A place where everyone works as a team, sense of camaraderie, helping others, and fun holiday parties.

Who are some of your biggest influences?

Mom and dad.

When you’re not at work, what are you most likely to be doing?

Spending time with my family, doing homework with my little one (8 years old, I could NEVER be a teacher), and grilling out.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Fun, loyal, and caring.

What is something you can’t live without?

A dog. Boots is my furry baby now. I have had a dog in my life since I was little.

What is the best gift you remember receiving as a child?

Memories with my parents. They would attend every softball game during my high school career and some games in college (in Kansas).

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Ireland, because I missed the trip with my entire family (20 of us) when I was in high school.
