The heart behind Halo Wellness was shaped long before Halo Wellness ever existed.
It was shaped by Pete and Aline Chassion.
A few months ago, I came across Cypress Cove Landing in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, and immediately thought, Daddy would absolutely love this place.
I mentioned it to my sister, Glenda, and we decided it would be a fun weekend getaway to celebrate Daddyโs birthday. When I shared our plans with Patty, my late sister Claudelโs best friend, she immediately booked a flight from Nashville to surprise Daddy. Patty lost both of her parents more than twenty years ago, and over the years, my parents became a second set of parents to her. Having her there made the weekend even more meaningful.
None of us could have imagined what God had in store for that weekend.
Mama passed away a little over a year ago. Last yearโs birthday came just one month after we lost her, and I think we were all still trying to figure out how to put one foot in front of the other. This year, we simply wanted to spend time together, make some new memories, and enjoy a place I thought Daddy would love.
One of my favorite memories from the weekend was sitting beside Daddy at Mass on Sunday morning. It was a quiet reminder that even after all these years, the faith Mama and Daddy built their lives upon is still the foundation of our family.
On Saturday afternoon, while we were sitting at our table listening to the band, one of the owners of Cypress Cove Landing, Jourdan Thibodeaux, stopped by to wish Daddy a happy birthday.
They visited in Cajun French, shared stories, laughed together, and talked about life, family, faith, and South Louisiana while the music played in the background. The conversation was so genuine that the rest of us mostly just sat back and listened.
When they finished talking, Jourdan turned to me and asked,
โWhat would you think about me interviewing your daddy after the band finishes playing?โ
I smiled and told him I thought Daddy would be honored.
Neither of us had any idea what a gift that interview would become.
As I watched it later, I realized I wasnโt just listening to my daddyโs story.
I was listening to the story of the life he and Mama built together.
The heart of Halo Wellness was first formed in the home where I was raised.
My parents didnโt just teach us with words. They taught us by the way they lived. Their faith in God wasnโt something they talked about only on Sundays. It shaped the way they lived every single day. They worked hard. They welcomed people. They loved generously. They treated everyone with kindness and respect. They believed that serving others was simply the right thing to do.
Mama and Daddy were two of my biggest encouragers. They believed in me long before Halo Wellness ever existed, and when God began leading me toward opening the clinic, they never stopped reminding me to trust Him.
As I look around Halo today, I see reminders of the people I love.
My daughter, Marlee, created the Halo logo that welcomes every person through our doors.
There is also a beautiful story behind the name Halo itselfโฆ but thatโs a story for another day.
Everything I try to give to the people who walk through Haloโs doors was first given to me by Pete and Aline Chassion.
And they would be the first to tell you that every good thing in our family has always come from the Lord.
And if youโve ever wondered why Halo Wellness feels the way it doesโฆ
It isnโt because of a business plan.
Itโs because I was blessed by God to be raised by Pete and Aline Chassion.
Thank you again, Jourdan, for recognizing that Daddyโs story was worth preserving and for taking the time to capture it. What may have seemed like a simple interview has become one of the greatest gifts our family could have received.
I hope youโll take a few minutes to watch it.
As you listen to Daddyโs stories, I hope youโll also remember the woman who stood beside him for nearly 65 years. Although Mama is no longer here with us, the life they built together, the faith they lived, and the values they passed on continue to shape us every single day.
P.S. If this video reminds you of your own parents or grandparents, Iโd love to hear about them. Tell me about someone who helped shape the person youโve become.
Those are the stories that deserve to be preserved.
