Please remember the Dunaway family in your prayers and share this post to make others aware of the arrangements.

Funeral services for Mr. Christopher Shane Dunaway will be held at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, with graveside services following in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on the same day at the funeral home from 1 o'clock in the afternoon until service time.

Mr. Christopher Shane Dunaway of Brookhaven passed away at his residence on May 7, 2026.

Chris was born on June 6, 1965, to H.L. and Betty Dunaway. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and loved the Lord with all his heart. After losing his voice to cancer in 2020, Chris found a new way to minister to others by sharing scripture and words of encouragement on social media. His greatest hope was that even without a voice, he could still reach someone and help lead them to Christ, making a difference in the world.

Before taking an early retirement due to health concerns, Chris worked for 35 years at the family-owned business, Dunaway Equipment. Through his years of work, he built lifelong friendships and truly enjoyed each day spent there.

Chris loved reminiscing and sharing stories from his childhood with his brothers. Some of his fondest memories were spending time with his Pawpaw Dunaway, riding on his shoulders while looking at timber, helping his Grandma Reed feed chickens on the farm, and churning butter. He cherished his family deeply and never missed an opportunity to proudly speak of his daughter and granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.L. and Betty Dunaway; his grandparents, Harper and Freddie Dunaway and Lucius and Rosie Reed; and his brothers, Lee Dunaway and Keith Whitehead.

Chris is survived by his wife, Sandy Dunaway; his daughter, Anna Dunaway (Trey); his granddaughter, Madison Dunaway; his brothers, David Dunaway (Marklyn), Ben Dunaway (Annette), and Phillip Hemby( Donna); Father & Mother in Law Sonny and Regina Boyte, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Deaconess Home Health, the staff of King’s Daughters Medical Center, and King’s Daughters Primary Care for the compassionate care shown to Chris and his family.

Chris will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for family, and the encouragement he gave to so many throughout his life. His legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion to Christ will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
