We had our 2nd month of pregnancy group yesterday at the Children's Museum of South Dakota! We were lucky enough Nancy DeBoer joined us to educate about all the things: breastfeeding, physical health signs of concern during pregnancy, birthing questions, etc! She is the most compassionate, caring nurse & IBCLC (certified lactation) and we are so lucky to have her at Brookings Health System!

A huge huge thank you to Larkspur Counseling & Therapy, LLC for sponsoring our pasta buffet lunch!

*Trigger Warning*
I feel these images accurately represent and describe many of the thoughts I've been having amongst the Lindsay Clancy trial. We have failed this woman and her family miserably and this could've have been prevented. Women need better care, better assessment, better education, better support.

We had a GREAT first session for pregnancy group at Children's Museum of South Dakota! Delicious food and great conversation.

Topics were self care and writing a letter to our future self, reflecting on:
💓How are you feeling during this season of pregnancy?
💓What are your biggest hopes for yourself as a mother?
💓What are your biggest fears right now?
💓What strengths do you already have that will help you through motherhood?
💓What do you want to remember on the hard days?
💓What are you proud of yourself for today?
💓What do you hope your relationship with your baby feels like?
💓What kind of grace or encouragement do you hope you'll give yourself after your baby arrives?
💓What advice would your pregnant self want your future self to hear?

The letters will be mailed after their due date to remind them of how strong they truly are 💪

Our discussion today at Postpartum Wellness Group. Ideal Mom expectations versus Healthy Mom expectations.
The PERFECT MOM is a myth.

💗 A Healthy Mom Says...
I repair after difficult moments.
My home is lived in.
Feeding my baby is what matters.
Healing takes time.
Asking for help is strength.
Some moments are wonderful, and some are hard.
My needs matter too.
I'm learning my baby every day.

Motherhood reflection in postpartum wellness group this morning:

🌸What parts of me feel new, and what parts of me are still deeply me?

🌸What is one thing I handled with care of strength this week?

🌸What feelings have been hardest to say out loud lately?

🌸What has my body carried me through recently?

🌸Who or what helped me feel supported this week?

Sending lots of love to ALL 💖 it's not all rainbows and butterflies.

Sending lots of love to ALL 💖 it's not all rainbows and butterflies.

🌸🤍 Mother’s Day can hold so many emotions at once…

Joy.
Grief.
Love.
Longing.
Gratitude.
Heartbreak.
Healing.
Overwhelm.

For some, it’s a day of celebration.

For others, it’s a reminder of someone deeply missed, a difficult journey, or a quiet ache that words can’t fully explain.

So today, sending love to every version of motherhood — and to every person carrying something heavy this weekend. 🫶

You are seen.
You are loved.
And your feelings are valid too. 🤍
