🎃DJF PSL - My best advice for decreasing excessive calories is make your food and drinks at home! There is so much added sugar added into these seasonal drinks!

My advice is enjoy a fall flavored latte at a local coffee shop that makes its own syrups vs a big brand to get in the mood of the season and then give it a try making your favorite flavored latte at home.

Building my business hasn’t be easy, but it has been the best project of my life! This fall I’m expanding the reach of both sides of the business by getting more involved in the Brookline business community and RD Exam Tutoring with Dana J. Fryer, MS, RDN, CNSC will have a booth at FNCE the annual dietitian conference (come visit us 10/26 at booth 966!)

📰Every time I see nutrition on the news it is always telling me to not eat something or that something is going to give me cancer or that meat being sold isn’t really meat 😱

Nutrition in the media is often used for clickbait which adds to the confusion!

If I was in charge of the news these are the headlines I would be pushing so I could actually help people.

✋🏼Let’s not panic about carbohydrates “spiking” blood sugar until we learn more about the pancreas!

The pancreas is my FAVORITE organ because it does so much for the body which is why diseases of the pancreas can have so many nutritional effects!

👉🏼 to learn more about the pancreas and don’t forget to ask for your A1C because according to the CDC ~42% of adults have pre-diabetes! Data is powerful and a dietitian is just the healthcare profession to help you keep you and your pancreas healthy!

✨ Didn’t win that emerging dietetic leader award for nothing!😉

The field of dietetics if at a real turning point where we need more people working to support positive changes, making dietitians more visual to the healthcare community and the public and dietitians to have the skills and confidence to ask for adequate payments!

I’m using my social media platforms and my role as president of Massachusetts Dietitians to continue to advocate for the field! Massachusetts Dietitians offers so many resources for dietitians and we are working on planning great events this year to help our members elevate their careers within the field!

Vacations can be a stressful time when you are working on improving your diet and my goal for all my clients is that we get them to the point where the focus on vacation isn’t how they look in a swim suit or worrying about the calories of a meal and more focused on creating memories and enjoying themselves without guilt ♥️

⏱️Visiting your doctor just once a year for a 15 min visit doesn’t leave much opportunity to focus on diet, lifestyle or disease prevention.

That is why I love my role as a dietitian, when you add a dietitian to your healthcare time you get your own personal expert on nutrition. Private practice dietitians (and other private practice providers) have more flexible appointment hours than a regular doctor office and most insurance plans will cover visits.

Most of my clients are able to see me as frequently as needed which allows for them to have the support they need to make sustainable progress to their health goals!

🥗Is this the year of fiber?!

Fiber is one of the nutrients that most of my clients are not getting enough of. Fiber goals are 25g per day for women and 38g for men.

While there are many fruits, vegetables and whole grains that are great sources of fiber, average fiber of these foods is typically around ~5g per serving. Try to aim for 5 servings of fruits/vegetables per day plus at least 1 serving of a whole grain to hit your fiber goals daily!
