Some students leave treatment doing better and still can't get started on their homework.

That gap is exactly why we built Momentum Coaching at The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health: a one-on-one, executive functioning–focused coaching program for high school students whose mental health challenges show up at school as trouble getting started, staying organized, managing time, and handling stress in the moment.

Coaching is not therapy, and it doesn't replace it. It's structured, practical skill-building that reinforces treatment gains where students need them most, in real schoolwork, in real time. Students meet with a coach 1–2 times per week (virtually, with flexible scheduling), working across four areas:
• Stress management & emotional regulation
• Focus building
• Task
• Goal setting

For those working with or parents of high school students: Momentum works well as a step-down support for students transitioning back to a full school schedule who are stable but whose executive functioning skills haven't yet caught up with their recovery.

Momentum is a private-pay service ($95/session).

If you work with a student who is "fine, but drowning," we'd love to talk.

This week, The Brookline Center's Acting CEO Steph Trilling, MSW, LICSW, took part in MIT's Short Course on Pediatric Innovation, a hands-on program from the Hood Pediatric Innovation Lab and MIT Catalyst designed to spark new ideas and develop the next generation of innovators in children's health.

Over two immersive days, participants tackled real challenges in pediatric care: questioning long-held assumptions, surfacing gaps in the evidence, and identifying unmet needs across children's healthcare.

Pictured here during a breakout session, Steph and her teammates Moada Ibrahim and Jane Shan worked on new community models to increase outdoor time and physical activity for kids.

We’re excited to share that together we reached our Kids Fund Campaign goal!

This would not have been possible without our community’s incredible generosity and unwavering support. Thank you for stepping up for children’s mental health. 💙

Your support brings critical funding to Brookline Center programs like CEDAR, MPATH, bryt, and others supporting kids and families across the Commonwealth, as well as our outpatient clinic here in Brookline.

Psychosis caught early has good outcomes. But the image most people carry of crisis, emergency rooms, and dramatic interventions means families often don't recognize what they're seeing until later than they should. Drs. Amanda Weber and Emily Gagen share insights on the quiet early signs, the narrowing window, and the work that happens when families find help in time.

When we launched our Kids Fund Campaign in April, we told you that kids are growing up in a world that's uncertain and unpredictable. Families are under intense pressure, support systems are stretched thin, and the need for mental health care has never been greater.

We also told you something else: The Brookline Center is undaunted. Our commitment to kids' mental health is unwavering.

For the past three months, we've asked our community to help ensure every child and family can access support, regardless of their circumstances. So many individuals have stepped up for kids’ mental health, and we are deeply grateful. Now, in the final hours of our 2026 Kids Fund Campaign, will you join us?
