I let them say it.

Some sentences sound like personality. But sometimes, they’re inheritance.
“I’m fine.”
“I can handle it alone.”
“It’s not a big deal.”
Maybe nobody explicitly taught you to say these things.
You learned them by watching. At the dinner table. In the hallway. In the back seat of a car.
You learned when it was safe to speak, when to stay quiet, when to be strong, and when your feelings were too much for the people around you.
Over time, those responses became so familiar that they started to feel like who you are.
But what if some of what you call your personality is actually a pattern you inherited?
In Family Constellations, we explore the unconscious family dynamics and generational patterns that may still influence how we love, communicate, protect ourselves, and relate to others.
Not everything you inherited needs to be carried forward.
And recognizing a pattern gives you the opportunity to choose differently.

Some sentences sound like personality. They’re inheritance. “I’m fine.” “I can handle it alone.” “It’s not a big deal.” You didn’t choose them, you absorbed them, at a table, in a hallway, in the back seat of a car. The work is hearing them as borrowed, not as you. Which one runs your house? Comment it below. 👇

Last year I lost my grandma. She was like a second mom to me. She gave me unconditional love through my whole life. When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 10 years ago, I was the one who brought her to the doctor, when I used to live in Brazil. I was always doing my best to be sure she was taken care of. When I was back there, I visited her as much as I could. It was hard to see her disappear while her body was here. Two years before she passed away, she forgot who I was. But for many years she didn't know my favorite recipes, or the stories I tried to remind her of, even though her life was the same.

When she started to get worse, and the doctor gave her a few days, I wanted to rush to Brazil and stay by her side, but I was advised not to go. Because my father could make a scene in the hospital, and later at the cemetery. My father can't stand my presence. He loves to tell everyone how much he hates me. I know that deep down his hate is not towards me. It's towards the woman who left him 40 years ago, when I was only a little child. But that's another story.

I cried alone. I grieved alone. I couldn't say goodbye. He stayed the last days by her side. But I know that the 42 years I lived by her side, and even being far I made myself present, this is what is important. Inside me, and through my daughter, she's still alive.

Can I love my father even though my mother can’t forgive him?

Here it is, clean:

Can I love my father even though my mother can’t forgive him?

Yes. Your father was never hers to give you or to take away.

Her pain is real, and her story with him is hers. But it doesn’t get to decide your relationship with your own father. In constellations, a child belongs to both parents, equally. Loving him isn’t betraying her. It’s refusing to carry a war that was never yours.
