The other day I got a big reminder why I made a 180 from being a video director to a funeral home owner. And also why planning all aspects of your death before you die.

Yes, of course a funeral home is a business. But that doesn’t mean we have to grossly profit off of people’s grief.

Would you want your kids to spend all their savings and go into debt carrying out what they think is the “right thing”, even if they aren’t sure it’s what you would want?

At the end of the day, I believe funeral homes can make money and feel good about the way they have supported and shown up for the families they have serviced.

Because my former life was as a director/producer my social media sites are a combo of both my old world and my current all things death and dying world. Today this memorial project popped up on my LinkedIn feed. I went through the whole site and read about Molly Dowd, a woman I never knew. Going through her garden and reading what her friends and family wrote about her, I feel like I know her. It’s a beautiful personal example of how one can be remembered and their life shared with others. (Link in comments)

This would be absolutely life changing for MILLIONS of people in the U.S. and around the world. I’ve been with way too many families, and know so many personally, who struggle for years both emotionally and financially when a family member is diagnosed with dementia. Time to end the embargo. I was in Cuba in 2000 and had to be treated at the hospital for something that here, in the U.S., cost me hundreds of dollars. I think the entire cost to see the doctor and my medication was maybe $40. Healthcare is a human right.
