It's OCD Awareness Week, and one of the most common things people say after learning more is: "I didn't know that was OCD."

OCD isn't about liking things tidy. It can attach to almost any theme. Some people experience unwanted thoughts about causing harm, thoughts that are distressing precisely because they go against who the person is. Others get stuck in relentless doubt about a relationship. Others feel driven to repeat actions until something feels "just right."

The themes differ, but the cycle is the same: an unwanted thought causes distress, and a compulsion, visible or mental, brings short-term relief that keeps the cycle going.

Having an intrusive thought doesn't say anything about your character. And OCD, whatever form it takes, is treatable.

This week marks National Depression Screening Day (Oct 8) and World Mental Health Day (Oct 10).

When people picture depression, they usually picture sadness. But for many adults it looks different: a short fuse and constant irritability, feeling numb or flat instead of sad, quietly pulling away from friends and family, or keeping up at work while everything else slips.

Because it doesn't match the picture people expect, it's easy to dismiss, in yourself or in someone you care about.

If any of this sounds familiar and has lasted more than a couple of weeks, a confidential evaluation is a good place to start.

Schedule a confidential evaluation with Curated Mental Health.

The symptoms don't always look like what you'd expect. 👀

Feeling numb about things you used to love. Organizing a drawer instead of doing the urgent thing. A thought that just won't leave.

These are real, and they're treatable. 💙

Our psychiatric team in Chelsea & Williamsburg can help you figure out what's going on, and what to do about it.

Replaying a conversation from three days ago. Running through every way tomorrow could go wrong. Lying awake while your mind keeps going.

Everyone overthinks sometimes. But when it's constant, hard to switch off, and starts affecting your sleep, focus or relationships, it can be a sign of anxiety.

Anxiety doesn't always look like panic. For many adults, it looks like a mind that won't rest.

The good news: anxiety is very treatable. A conversation with a provider can help you understand what's driving it and what would actually help.

October is ADHD Awareness Month, and one of the most common questions we hear is: "What actually happens in an ADHD evaluation?"

It's more than a quick checklist. A thorough evaluation usually includes a detailed conversation about your current symptoms and how they affect daily life, a look back at your childhood and school years, and standardized questionnaires.

Just as important, it looks at what else could be going on. Anxiety, depression, sleep problems and other conditions can overlap with ADHD or mimic it, and getting that right shapes what treatment will actually help.

The goal isn't simply a label. It's an understanding of your symptoms, functioning, and history, so that any treatment plan is built on solid ground.

"Spravato®" and "ketamine" often get used interchangeably. They're related, but they are not the same treatment.

Esketamine (Spravato®) is a nasal spray that's FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression in adults. It's administered in a certified healthcare setting, where patients are monitored for at least two hours after each dose. Because it's FDA-approved for depression, it is often covered by insurance, usually with prior authorization.

Ketamine is most often given as an IV infusion. It's FDA-approved as an anesthetic, and its use for depression is off-label. Protocols vary from clinic to clinic, and it is often not covered by insurance.

Neither is a first-line treatment, a fit for everyone, or a guaranteed result. If you've tried several medications without enough improvement, a psychiatric evaluation can help sort out which options make sense for you.

Contact Curated Mental Health to talk through your treatment history and options.

Anxiety and depression don't always look the way people expect.

Anxiety says: "You have so much to do, fix it all right now."
Depression says: "Why bother? It won't change anything."

One keeps you up at 3 AM overthinking. The other makes you want to sleep for 12 hours just to escape your thoughts.

Anxiety is constant fear. Depression is constant exhaustion. Sometimes they show up together — and that's exhausting in a whole different way.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone, and support is available.

3 things most people don't know about Spravato 👀
🚫 It's clinic-only; you can't take it home. Every dose is administered on-site.
🧠 It doesn't work like typical antidepressants; instead of targeting serotonin, it works through the glutamate system and supports synaptic plasticity.
💳 Insurance often covers it if other antidepressants haven't worked for you.
