😵‍💫 This you, boo? Can’t sleep because your brain won’t shut off? This will help you fall asleep faster.

✶ Gallbladder 8 is one of my favorite acupuncture points for shutting off an overactive brain and turning down the volume on frustration energy. I especially love it for PMS or perimenopausal rage. 😅 This scalp point frees blockage in the Gallbladder energy channel that runs from the side of your head and face all the way down to your toes.

✶ In Chinese medicine, when you’re really stressed, your Liver energy can get crazy stuck, making it hard to fall asleep. Massaging GB8 frees up your Gallbladder channel, which also frees up your Liver energy (they’re paired channels in Chinese medicine). It’s like releasing a pressure valve and letting pent-up stress out of your system, so your brain can calm down and you can fall asleep easier.

✶ How does it lift your face? As we get older, tissues in the temporal region of our scalp (from your temple to around your ear) can become tight, rigid and even stuck. This changes how your face moves, creating a heavier face shape that looks like it’s shifting downward. Facial sagging isn’t always just gravity. Releasing GB8 restores fluidity and natural movement to this whole area, freeing up surrounding tissues to move better too. When your face moves better, it can look more lifted.

✶ And remember, good sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your face. Beauty doesn’t happen separately from the rest of your body. YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR BEAUTY. So take care of it, and you’ll never need a facelift❣️

This facelift wasn’t done with surgery. It was done with acupuncture and Chinese medicine with 6 treatments over 3 months.

As she entered her 60s, Elisa didn’t want to look 30 again. She wanted to look and feel more like herself, without doing something drastic like surgery.

I started with acupuncture to give her neck and jaw a thorough, active release. I can’t emphasize enough how much tension from years of forward head posture can actually drag the face downward. Releasing that tension creates visible lift. I also used gua sha, cupping, and Chinese herbs to restore the quality of her tissues, which is huge for skin quality and glow.

That’s all part of how we restore skin and face in Chinese medicine. In our world, there is no separation between health and beauty. Your health IS your beauty.

Obviously, our results are different than that of plastic surgery. My goal is to rejuvenate her face, but maintain its natural harmony. She does not have to rely on my artistic ability to decide how her face should look. I’m simply relaxing what’s over-tensed and strengthening what has weakened. And this is the result.

In other words, I’m simply helping her own Original Face come through.

What it takes to get results like this can be different for everyone depending on your age and willingness to supplement the clinical work at home with gua sha self-care and skincare. Part of her results is her commitment to the daily skincare routine that I made for her.

We tailor treatment plans around your age, health, goals, time, and budget. If you’re interested in booking with our team, please see the link in bio. Also if you’re in Brooklyn and need a legit Pilates instructor with over 2 decades of experience check out Bluming Studio - Pilates/GYROTONIC.

Under eyes take time and patience. Even in clinic, this is one of the areas that can take the longest to improve. But there’s actually a lot you can do at home if you’re consistent, especially if you’re not interested in expensive treatments or surgery.

I focus first on improving blood flow and healthy fluid movement (gua sha), and keeping the skin deeply hydrated and nourished so it stays strong and resilient (skincare). Then it’s really about consistency over time.

And don’t forget that under eyes reflect what’s happening inside too. Sleep, nutrition and hydration all matter here. ❤️

In TCM, gua sha is a technique, not a tool. And if you know what you’re doing, you can do gua sha with anything smooth and clean.

If you need a list of affordable picks for hydrators, face oils + gua shas, I made one for you. Check the button on this Reel called “BUDGET PICKS.” It’s a new feature, so let me know if it works!

SOME NOTES ON THIS ROUTINE:

1️⃣ You don’t need fancy serums and moisturizers to have great skin. I’m obsessed with some of them myself, but you can also have amazing skin with something as simple as water and oil.

2️⃣ The key is getting your skin really wet, then sealing in that hydration with oil. And if you hate oils, try this before you write them off. Oil on really wet skin is a total game changer compared to applying it on dry skin.

3️⃣ At the most basic level, you can use filtered water from home and an oil like avocado or sunflower seed oil from your kitchen. Just make sure anything you use is clean. If you’re acne-prone, stick with an oil you already know your skin tolerates.

4️⃣ If you’re using a spoon for gua sha, make sure the edge is smooth and doesn’t feel sharp against your skin. If it does, use your knuckles instead. And of course, if you have a gua sha tool, by all means use your gua sha tool!

In Chinese medicine, we don’t inject the face with filler. We build the body with foods that have supported longevity and beauty for centuries. This recipe helps the body build Yin. Yin is one of our body’s most important biological assets for maintaining plump, youthful skin without fillers. (More on Yin after the recipe ⬇️)

🥗 MY TCM SKIN-PLUMPING SALAD

▫️ 1 lb Shan Yao (Chinese mountain yam - I’m using Yamaimo, the Japanese variety here.)
▫️ 3 Tbsp dried mozuku (or substitute mekabu or wakame)
▫️ 1 lb cucumber
▫️ 1 Tbsp black sesame seeds
▫️ ¼ cup cilantro, roughly chopped
▫️ 2 Tbsp soy sauce (or tamari)
▫️ 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
▫️ 2 tsp toasted sesame oil
▫️ 1 garlic clove, crushed

⚠️ If it’s your first time eating Shan Yao, wear gloves while peeling - handling raw Shan Yao can make your skin itch. This is easily solved by blanching the julienned strips for 30-60 seconds before adding them to the salad.

📝 DIRECTIONS

1️⃣ Julienne the Shan Yao, or cut into thin strips.
2️⃣ Soak the dried mozuku (or seaweed of choice) in warm water for 5-10 minutes, then drain. Save the soaking liquid and add a little miso for a quick broth.
3️⃣ Julienne the cucumber, or slice it into thin strips.
4️⃣ Combine the Shan Yao, cucumber, and mozuku.
5️⃣ Toss in the cilantro, garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and toasted sesame oil.
6️⃣ Sprinkle with black sesame seeds and enjoy.

✨ WHY I INCLUDED THESE FOODS

In Chinese medicine, we regard your body’s deep internal moisture as a literal treasure called Yin.

Stress, lack of sleep, overwork, illness, and menopause can all burn through it. One of the best ways to avoid becoming dry and withered as we get older is to intentionally restore Yin through foods, good sleep, and slowing down.

What do you think? Could you handle a slippery, slimy texture? Lmk!

🧊 Ice might feel like it’s doing more... but that’s deceptive.

Cold creates such a strong sensation that it FEELS like something major is happening. But strong sensation doesn’t mean better fluid movement. When you’re puffy, the goal is to get the fluids moving out of the tissues and back into circulation. But cold energy stops movement, and warm energy gets things moving.

And the bonus is that when you use a warm tool like I did here, the tissue remains warm afterwards so that the fluid movement and de-puffing can continue even after you put your tool down.

You may have been taught that ice constricts blood flow to stop swelling, but we’re not dealing with a sprained ankle here. Everyday facial puffiness comes from stagnant fluid in the tissues that I want to get moving, not slow down.

As a doctor of Chinese medicine, I’m obsessed with the power of heat to heal. That’s why you will never see us using a cold tool in Chinese medicine, because we always focus on protecting your body’s warmth.

But I want to hear from you. What’s your experience with using ice to de-puff?

Almost all of us “shrink forward” with tech neck, and when I work on patients wanting a neck lift, jowl lift, or more jaw sculpting - the first thing I do is examine the side neck where the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle is often overworking and hyper tense! It’s kind of like a sick little muscle (poor thing!).

Our neck should be a superhighway for blood flow, circulation, energy and nutrients traveling up to the face and head. When that highway gets blocked by tight, sick muscles, the face suffers with things like sagging, jowls, loss of lift - not to mention facial bloating, TMJ pain, headaches, chronic congestion and other health problems.

So instead of planning on surgery, what if we planned to help our neck health daily? That way we may not ever feel the need for a surgical facelift at all! Life savings saved! 💰

The combination of skincare that’s right for your skin + Gua Sha is incredibly powerful, yet many people underestimate it, thinking they need a trip to Korea or a conversation with their dermatologist about Botox instead.

I’ve worked with hundreds of students and patients who’ve experienced the surprisingly powerful benefits of consistent skincare combined with regular gua sha and/or facial massage. Some have even preferred their results to treatments they’ve tried in the past, like fillers.

➡️ This is a recipe I started making in my mid 40’s. If you are under 40, and prone to greasy hair and oily/acne prone skin this recipe is not for you for regular consumption.

It’s very rich in internal moisturizers and better suited for those over 40 who experience thinning hair and skin laxity + dryness (increasing lines and wrinkles).

RECIPE
⚫ Black Soybean Milk – a Kidney tonic. TCM links strong kidneys to strong hair. I made this with my soymilk machine but you can substitute regular organic soy milk.

⚫ Black Sesame Paste: Nourishes Kidney & Liver essence to prevent hair loss and minimiz graying while moisturizing dry skin. TCM says black foods strengthen hair roots 💪🏼

Beef Gelatin: A modern substitute for donkey-hide gelatin (阿胶) – a famous and powerful blood-nourishing ingredient. In TCM strong blood = Strong hair.

Splash of organic heavy cream (optional): now that I’m in menopause, I find that fats really are my friends so I try to include them often. If you don’t like dairy, you could substitute with coconut MCT oil, which I sometimes do as well.

Organic coffee: coffee is the perfect substance to cut the richness of all these ingredients to make a balanced, energizing breakfast drink.

I’m sure you all will have a lot of questions lol! As always, pop them in the comments! ❤️
