This Memorial Day, the Miraglia Family and Miraglia Funeral Chapels pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

For over 5 generations, our family has been humbled to serve all communities with dignity, compassion, and respect. Today, we also remember with pride Dominic Miraglia, a World War II Navy veteran, whose life reflected service, sacrifice, and devotion to both country and community.

May we never forget those who gave everything for our freedom.

Today, on National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day, we pause to recognize the calling behind the profession.

At Miraglia Funeral Chapels, we know this work is far more than a job. It is a commitment to serve families with compassion, dignity, patience, and care during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Funeral directors are called to guide, listen, comfort, and carry a responsibility that is both deeply human and deeply sacred.

Tonight we gather on the 1st new day of the year as neighbors, friends, and family to hold both memory and hope. We remember those who are no longer with us, we speak their names, and we honor the love that continues to bind our community together.

As the year continues, may we make space for one another - share a story at the table, call someone who might be alone, offer a quiet toast to the kindness we saw this year. To our leaders, teachers, volunteers, first responders, and all who lift others up when days are heavy - thank you for the light you bring.

Today we pause with gratitude for the families who trust us in their most tender moments, for the clergy, hospices, medical teams, social workers, first responders, and community organizations who walk beside us, and for our dedicated help who serve with quiet compassion every day.

Whether your table is full or a little quieter this year, may small rituals; a photo at the place setting, a candle lit before dinner, a handwritten note to the one you are missing; bring warmth and comfort.

What a gift to share two joyful moments with our neighbors.

At St. Ephrem Catholic Church, “Pasta with our Pastor” brought everyone together around Father Robert’s warm welcome and more than ten delicious pasta styles prepared by Cheryl. Bon Appetit to all who cooked and served & congratulations to Cheryl, crowned champion of the Epic Tiramisu Showdown. Every bite and every laugh made the evening special.

Our thanks as well to the Life Center of New York for their inspiring “Fall Festival for Life.” The community showed up with great food, generous raffle baskets, and wonderful company - and we were even treated to a fantastic Rubik’s Cube magic performance. How amazing to see so many hearts united in support.

We are proud to stand with the people and organizations that make Brooklyn feel like family. Thank you for letting us share in the celebration, and we look forward to many more moments together.

Congratulations to Redeemer - St. John's Lutheran Church & Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on another wonderful community event: Oktoberfest. From plates filled with bratwurst and sauerkraut to lively dancing, beautiful music from the local choir, and games for the children, it was community at its best.

Events like this bring neighbors together, build friendships, and remind us how strong our shared traditions are. We wish the parish continued success and we are proud to support future endeavors that uplift families and celebrate community.

October gave us many reasons to smile as we celebrated Italian Heritage Month across our community. We proudly congratulate the National Federation of Italian-American Societies, Inc. and the FIAO - Il Centro Community Center on a memorable season of events. Bravissimi to this year’s honorees and scholarship recipients for your leadership, service, and dedication to education.

Thank you to the volunteers, families, and community partners who make these programs possible. Heritage, faith, and family shape a life’s legacy, and we are honored to support organizations that uplift culture, language, and opportunity throughout Brooklyn and beyond.

Thank you to all the families who stopped by on Halloween. Seeing children in costume, parents catching up on the sidewalk, and neighbors sharing a laugh reminded us why community matters. We were grateful to hand out candy, play a little festive music, and offer a safe, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy the evening together.

As we look back on the night, we also look inward. The days that follow Halloween lead us into All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day - moments set aside to honor the lives of those who have gone before us. In this season of remembrance, we hold close the names, stories, and traditions that keep our loved ones present in our hearts. Whether your loss is recent or years behind you, grief has its own rhythm. You’re not alone in it.
