This May, during National Speech-Language-Hearing Month (NSLHM), we proudly recognize the important contributions of our Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology teams.
At our hospital, these clinicians play a critical role in the care of patients experiencing swallowing disorders (dysphagia), communication impairments, cognitive deficits, and hearing-related conditions. Their work supports patients recovering from stroke, neurological illness, prolonged hospitalization, traumatic injury, and other medically complex conditions.
Speech-language pathologists are integral members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, helping patients improve swallowing safety, communication, cognition, and overall functional independence. Dysphagia management in particular is essential in reducing aspiration risk, supporting nutrition and hydration, and improving patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
Our Audiology services assist in identifying and addressing hearing-related concerns that can significantly affect communication, safety, participation in care, and quality of life.
As a safety-net hospital, we are committed to ensuring access to compassionate, high-quality rehabilitative services for the diverse communities we serve. We are grateful for the dedication, clinical expertise, and patient-centered care our Speech Pathology and Audiology professionals provide every day. Our Speech-Language Pathology team includes Spanish-speaking clinicians.
