What does it take to care for Brooklyn's diverse communities?

During our 20th annual Nurse for a Day program, participants traded their business attire for scrubs and shadowed Maimonides nurses, observing patient rounds and gaining insight into the clinical expertise, compassion, and cultural sensitivity that define nursing care at our hospital.

A special thank you to NYC Council Member Alexa Avilés and Council Member Shahana Hanif, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Reverend Kim Council for Brooklyn, and all of our community partners who joined us for this experience.

What happens when community leaders trade their business attire for hospital scrubs?

Brooklyn Paper’s Gabriel Holtermann joined our 20th Annual Nurse for a Day program, where NYC Council Members Alexa Avilés and Council Member Shahana Hanif, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Reverend Kim Council for Brooklyn, and community partners experienced firsthand the critical role nurses play in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

By shadowing nurses and participating in patient care experiences, they saw how clinical expertise, compassion, and cultural competency come together to serve Brooklyn's diverse communities every day.
