Today the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments in Louisiana v. FDA, a lawsuit targeting mifepristone (one of two drugs used in medication abortion) by forcing patients to pick up the medication from a provider in person rather than by mail or at a local pharmacy. Restrictions like this cause more risks, can limit options for abortion care, and make pregnancy less safe,

Mifepristone is safe and effective and has been used by more than 7.5 million people since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it more than 25 years ago. PPGNY continues to offer medication abortion in-person at health centers or via our telehealth options, including our Virtual Health Center and PP Direct.

We're excited to share that the New York State LGBT Health & Human Services Network (“The Network”) has expanded! Planned Parenthood of Greater New York's Out for Health program is a proud member of The Network, a coalition of over 60 LGBTQ+ organizations located across New York State. While services and support for LGBTQIA+ folks across the country are shrinking and being defunded, we are expanding our reach and shared capacity. Providers across the state will be more interconnected, ensuring high-quality care is available for the LGBTQIA+ communities we serve across the state.

Recent federal funding cuts to the Essential Plan, a low-cost health insurance option for people of a certain income level, have affected over 450k New Yorkers across the state, leaving health care options limited and people at risk of losing their access to lifesaving, necessary care. New York State has notified impacted individuals already, but you can learn more about your options via the NY State of Health website (linked below).

While this is a discouraging blow to accessible health care in New York, know this: PPGNY remains committed to welcoming any patient through our door, regardless of ability to pay. We are here for you, no matter what.
