Story Time Chess The Authority in Early Childhood Chess At Story Time Chess, we understand the profound benefits of chess and the effectiveness of learning through storytelling.

Story Time Chess is revolutionizing early childhood education by using a unique story-based curriculum, that explains why chess pieces move the way they do. We pride ourselves in creating a fun and interactive learning environment that has children begging for more. This new approach enables children as young as three to comprehend the rules of chess, while developing a passion to continue playing outside of the learning environment. Chess is a game that acts as literal brain food:
• Increasing IQs
• Enhancing arithmetical skills
• Honing verbal skills
• Sharpening critical thinking
• Boosting emotional intelligence
• Raising self esteem
• Instilling confidence

Another way to make learning stick? Get up, move, act it out. 🕺♟️

We call them Chessercises: movement-based activities that get kids out of their seats and using their whole bodies to learn chess. Instead of only telling a child how a knight moves, we might have them jump the knight’s “L” themselves. Suddenly, something that felt abstract on a chessboard becomes something they’ve actually done.

For young kids especially, learning doesn’t have to mean sitting still and listening. Moving, pretending, and playing give them another way to understand and remember new ideas.

Plus, sometimes little bodies just need to MOVE. And we’re more than happy to make that part of the lesson

So, what exactly is a mini-game? ♟️

Learning chess can be a lot for a beginner. There are six different pieces, different ways to move, new rules to remember, and eventually, strategy to think about too. That’s why at Story Time Chess, we don’t expect kids to learn everything at once.

Our mini-games break chess down into smaller, playful challenges that focus on just one or two pieces and one specific skill at a time. Kids get to play right away, make their own decisions, experiment, and understand why a move works before we add something new.

Over time, those little skills start coming together until your child is ready to put all the pieces on the board and play a full game of chess.

It may look a little different from the chess you grew up with. That’s exactly the point. 💜

There’s a reason we put stories at the center of how we teach chess.

For a young child, being told that a bishop moves diagonally or a knight moves in an L-shape can feel pretty abstract. But introduce that same idea through a character they know, a story they remember, and a world they can picture? Suddenly, the move has meaning. Stories give children context for new information and help turn something unfamiliar into something they can understand, remember, and talk about.

Every game is a chance for kids to build confidence, practice good sportsmanship, and work through problems in a fun way.
