I'm honored to have been invited to present an original, science-based workshop on the research and practice of Cultivating Hope at Rinn United Methodist Church in Erie/Longmont. This is a secular event and all beliefs/non-beliefs are welcome!

Hope is more than luck—it's a skill that can be learned and strengthened. I'm looking forward to sharing practical, research-backed strategies for building resilience and moving forward with purpose. Please join me for an inspiring morning!

Mental Health Tip of the Day #29:
Practice Mindful Pauses
Before reacting, take one slow breath and notice what you’re feeling. Even brief pauses improve emotional regulation and give you a chance to respond instead of reacting.

Day #28 - Mental Health Tip of the Day
Years ago, I was at a workshop and the takeaway for me was when the presenter shared that one of the best things therapists can do for their clients was to help them take things less personally. We can help ourselves by asking, "Is this really about me? Or is this a situation I find myself in?" We find that often it isn't about us at all, and this can create less hard feelings, negative self-evaluations and difficult emotions. ~Pamela Boaz, LCSW

Mental Health Tip of the Day 26:
Anyone remember that Seinfeld episode where George goes with the opposite of what he'd normally do, and has some wild success? Well, while this isn't good practice in general, there are times when doing an opposite action is healthy. For example, when emotions push you to withdraw, try a small opposite behavior (e.g., reaching out instead).

Day #20: We have been celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month with a "jam" theme. People have been sharing their favorite songs that lift them up, and it's been a popular photo spot this week! Afterall, music is great for mental health - in fact music supports emotional regulation by helping us process and release feelings, reduce stress, and build connections through shared experiences (concerts, playlists and singing together) What song would you add?

Mental Health Tip of the Day #19:
Create a wind-down, bedtime routine and stick to it!
Consistent pre-sleep habits improve sleep quality, which is foundational for mental health. In some cases, mood and anxiety difficulties can be significantly improved with sleep improvements.

Mental Health Tip of the Day #17:
Take Thoughtful Breaks from Social Media
Reducing exposure—even briefly—can improve mood and decrease comparison-driven distress. Adults need this just as much as youth!
