Considering a Medicare Advantage Plan? Always Confirm With Your Providers.
Before enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan, it is important to check directly with each of your healthcare providers to make sure they accept the specific plan you are considering.
Even if the Medicare Advantage plan’s website, directory, or representative says that your doctor or healthcare provider is “in network,” confirm this information directly with the provider’s office before enrolling. Provider directories may not always reflect the most current participation information, and participation can vary between specific plans offered by the same insurance company.
When calling your provider, give them the exact name of the Medicare Advantage plan, not just the insurance company name.
Ask: “Are you currently in network with this specific Medicare Advantage plan for the upcoming plan year?”
This is especially important if you have established relationships with primary care providers, specialists, mental health providers, hospitals, pharmacies, or other healthcare services that you want to continue using.
A few phone calls before choosing a plan can help prevent unexpected out-of-network costs or disruptions in your care.
