Now, let’s talk about why I’m so excited about this 💫…
Wild sockeye salmon is one of my favorite low effort, high reward foods for people during pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding (or really anytime!)
It’s rich in DHA and EPA (those essential omega-3 fats) that support baby’s brain, nervous system, and eye development during pregnancy and postpartum through breast milk. Your body literally passes these nutrients along to your baby, which is amazing, but it also means your own stores can get depleted if you’re not regularly replenishing them.
Eating salmon consistently can help support both you and your baby:
🐟 Supports fetal and infant brain + eye development
🐟 Helps maintain maternal omega-3 levels during pregnancy + lactation
🐟 Linked to lower risk of preterm birth
🐟 May support mood and reduce risk/severity of postpartum depression
It’s also one of the safest seafood choices for pregnancy and breastfeeding (low in mercury and high in nutrients), which is why it’s often recommended by groups like the American Pregnancy Association, the FDA and ACOG.
If you’ve been meaning to eat more fish but aren’t sure where to start, this is such a great (and delicious) way to do it!
