Young athletes can experience growing pains—but sometimes, there’s more to the story. 🏃‍♀️⚽🏀

Heel pain, knee pain and swelling aren’t always signs of an injury that happened on the field. As athletes grow, rapid changes in their bones, muscles and tendons can lead to conditions such as Sever’s disease and Osgood-Schlatter disease.

“Growth spurts cause their bones to lengthen quickly, and the muscles and tendons that surround them often can’t keep up. This leads to a higher risk of overuse injuries,” explains Frank D. Clements, PA-C, CAQ-OS, with Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery.

From recognizing the signs to knowing when it’s time to see a provider, learn what parents and coaches should know to help keep young athletes healthy and in the game.

Help people find their way—and feel at home.

Hospitals can be unfamiliar places. A friendly face, a helpful answer or the right direction can make all the difference. That’s why our Health System is building a team of Visitor Management volunteers at the Brunswick Campus.

We’re looking for volunteers who can help patients and visitors navigate their experience by providing a warm welcome, assisting with check-in, offering wayfinding and connecting guests with the right resources.

Congratulations to Sherman Stevenson, MD, Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Ear, Nose & Throat, on recently completing his 200th Inspire implant—an exciting milestone that reflects his dedication to helping patients find relief from obstructive sleep apnea and improve their quality of life.
