What if we told you there’s a “brace” for your pelvic floor? 🤯👇

If you sprained your ankle, you’d probably wear a brace to support the healing tissues while you did physical therapy, right? The pelvic floor is no different!

A brand new 2025 multicenter study (B**r et al.) just looked at the use of a postpartum pessary (a supportive silicone device worn internally) starting at 6 weeks postpartum.

The results? 📊 Women who used the pessary saw a significantly greater improvement in pelvic floor function especially when it came to bladder symptoms and pelvic organ prolapse by 12 months postpartum compared to those who didn’t.

Why does this matter in Physical Therapy?

Sometimes, postpartum tissues need a little extra mechanical support to heal. A pessary takes the pressure off your healing tissues, giving us the perfect window to safely rehabilitate and strengthen your pelvic floor muscles without overtaxing them. It’s not “giving up” on your muscles it’s giving them a supportive environment to thrive in! 🤝✨

Are you experiencing postpartum heaviness, leaking, or prolapse? Have you ever considered a pessary to help your rehab? Let’s chat in the comments! 👇

POV: You’re banging your head against a wall because your periods are heavy and painful 😵‍💫 And someone hands you a helmet.

Helpful? Maybe.
Does it solve the reason you’re hitting the wall? Not exactly.

That’s how it can feel when birth control is prescribed for heavy, painful periods without investigating or addressing underlying contributors—including pelvic floor dysfunction.

Birth control can be a valuable tool for many people. But it shouldn’t automatically be the only tool in the toolbox.

A pelvic floor physical therapy evaluation can help identify muscle tension, coordination issues, and other factors that may be contributing to pelvic pain and period symptoms.

Because symptom management matters—and so does understanding what’s driving the symptoms in the first place.

We had to jump on the trend... 😜
But we couldn’t just make one documentary so we made episodes!

You don’t have to have wait for a problem to see a physical therapist. Prevention and quality care is key! If the healthcare field knew this, we’d save so much time and money.

Did you know, you DON'T HAVE TO HAVE PAIN WHEN PREGNANT? Also, PFPT helps prep for labor and delivery and helps with postpartum recovery. Listen to Bailey Anne Jones with Texas Pelvic Health explain how PFPT can help you! Couldn't have said it better ourselves 🥰

🦶 ➡️ 🧘‍♀️ ➡️ 🗣️ It sounds crazy, but clenching your jaw or struggling with pelvic floor coordination can actually be linked back to your feet. You shouldn’t treat the body like a bunch of isolated parts. It actually works as one complete system.

The human body is connected by a continuous web of connective tissue called fascia. Specifically, your “Deep Front Line” runs straight from the arches of your feet, up through your pelvic floor, and all the way to your jaw and tongue! Your jaw, pelvic floor, and feet are intimately connected through your nervous system. Tension or weakness at the bottom of the chain can cause compensations all the way at the top. When your feet are rigid, stuck in tight shoes, or lack coordination, your body must find stability somewhere else often by clenching the pelvic floor or tightening the jaw.

If you want a functional pelvic floor and a relaxed jaw, you have to build a strong foundation from the ground up. 🏗️

Let Restorative Physical Therapy help you:

✔️ Restore mobility in your feet

✔️ Improve your pelvic floor response

✔️ Release that stubborn jaw tension

We call this exercise “Toe Yoga”. IYKYK

Give this a try, and notice how your pelvic floor and jaw respond. Save this post to use as your daily warm-up! 📌
