💜 Tip Tuesday: Dementia Caregiver Tips 💜

𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁

When a loved one with dementia says something that's incorrect or becomes confused, it's natural to want to correct them. But often, correcting can lead to frustration or anxiety.

Instead, try redirecting the conversation.

💜 If they believe they're waiting to pick up their children from school, instead of saying, "Your children are grown," try asking, "Tell me about your children. What were they like when they were young?"

This simple shift validates their feelings while gently moving the conversation to a comforting memory.

Remember, with dementia, it's often more important to preserve peace and connection than to focus on facts.

Arkansas summers can be beautiful—but they can also bring extreme heat. Older adults are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, so taking a few simple precautions can make a big difference.

Here are 5 easy ways to stay safe this summer:

💧 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱. Drink water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty.

🌤️ 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆. Plan outdoor activities for the morning or evening whenever possible.

👕 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. Choose lightweight, light-colored clothing to help your body stay cool.
