🌿 ICYMI: What if the struggle to stay sober isn’t about willpower at all?

Recovery can feel like an internal tug-of-war—part of you moving toward healing, while other learned patterns pull you back toward familiar coping strategies. Understanding those forces can be a powerful first step toward change.

In this ACEP Blog article, author Mark Bottinick, LCSW-C, explores how energy psychology approaches may help address the emotional patterns, conditioned responses, and internal resistance that can make sobriety feel like an uphill battle.

Whether you're a practitioner supporting clients in recovery or someone interested in mind-body approaches to healing, this thoughtful article offers valuable insights into addiction, resilience, and transformation.

What makes energy psychology different?

Energy psychology integrates mind, body, and emotions to support healing, resilience, and personal growth. By incorporating body-based approaches, these methods can help clients regulate their emotional responses, process difficult experiences, and develop practical skills they can use long after a session ends.

Energy psychology approaches are flexible, adaptable, and used with a wide range of populations, including adults, children, families, and groups. They can also be integrated with many established frameworks, including trauma-informed care, interpersonal neurobiology, and polyvagal-informed approaches.

Perhaps most importantly, energy psychology equips clients with simple, accessible tools that support self-regulation and empower them to participate actively in their own healing process.

✨ In this blog, you’ll discover:
• How awe impacts the nervous system and stress response
• Why moments of wonder can increase connection and creativity
• Practical ways to cultivate awe in everyday life
• The relationship between awe, gratitude, mindfulness, and healing
• How community and shared experiences amplify wellbeing
