Clarence Richard Sprinkle II

Clarence Richard “Dickie” Sprinkle II, 75, of Buchanan, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 31, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Richard and Dorothy Christine Sprinkle.

Dickie was an avid outdoorsman enjoying bear hunting with his dogs, wife, and friends. He was a lifelong member of the Virginia Bear Hunters Association where he was president for four years. Dickie was a retiree from Verizon with 35 years as a Lineman and Compliance Inspector.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Janice Hayes Sprinkle; sister and brother-in-law, Carole Sprinkle Allred and Gene Allred; and several nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Amanda Montgomery, Matt Trammell, Maren Trammell, special friends, Dolly Montgomery and Dennis Falls; and his hunting dogs.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Friday, November 6, 2026 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 pm also in the Chapel with Elder I. Ray Sloan officiating. Burial will be private. A reception will follow in the Botetourt Event Center.

Flowers are beautiful, however the family wishes donations may be made to your local Hospice, a Dementia organization, or to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.botetourtfh.com or by calling 540-254-3000

Richard Richard Sprinkle

Ray Frederick Spangler

Ray F Spangler Jr, 80, went to be with the Lord October 31, 2026 with his wife by his side at Friendship Health.

Ray (Bud, Red) was born December 3, 1945 to Ray and Susie Spangler in Roanoke VA.

Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Spangler, sisters Mary Sue Lester of Buchanan, Brenda Reynolds (George) of Clifton Forge, brother Edward Spangler of Salem, and stepsons he earnestly referred to as sons, Jackie Smith of Glasgow, Barry Smith (Marcie) of Vinton and Dan Smith (Cindy) of Harrisonburg. He also leaves behind a special niece, Tiffany Braford, and his lifelong friend Richard Britt, who he considered a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ray lived the majority of his years in the community he loved, Eagle Rock, where he helped with the Eagle Rock Community Clothes Closet after retirement. His career was spent in the furniture industry, starting at Botetourt Galleries and retiring from Grand's. Ray was an avid Virginia Tech football fan. Ray's mission in life was to make people laugh. Ray and Brenda moved to Friendship Manor in the last year, enjoying meeting new friends and all that Friendship has to offer. What Ray most loved besides the Lord and his family was his church.

Ray gave his life to the Lord twenty years ago and has faithfully served Him in words and deeds. He was ready to meet his Savior and all who knew him knew it was well with his soul.

The family will receive friends Saturday November 7, 2026 10:00 a.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home in Buchanan with service to follow at 11:00. Graveside burial will take place at Shiloh Cemetery in Eagle Rock. In lieu of flowers, Ray would be honored for donations be made to Grace Bible Church, 148 Amsterdam Rd, Daleville, VA 24083 or Shiloh Cemetery Fund, 1281 Salt Petre Cave Road, Eagle Rock, VA 24085.

Gilbert Odell Markham, Sr.

Gilbert Odell Markham, Sr. (Gil), age 70 of Eagle Rock passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, October 31, 2026. He was born at Fort Knox, KY in 1955 to his father, Gray Markham and mother, Joyce Haga.

Gil was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church when he was younger and was a follower of the Baptist Faith. He was baptized in Craigs Creek during this time of his life. Gil was a long time employee of the papermill in Covington where he retired from the loading and shipping department. He was known for his wonderful singing voice and showcased it many times at Weddings and Funerals. Gil loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Libby and daughter, Heather and many other close family members. Gil is survived by his current wife, Donna Masters Markham; daughter, Melissa Markham (Patrick); sons, Bert Makham (Loretta), and Seth Markham (Kyndall); step-children, Kenny Masters (Cassie), Marsha (JR) and Jeffrey (Kaitlyn); 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Along with numerous cousins and close friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Friday, November 6, 2026 in the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Saturday, November 7, 2026 in the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Mr. Ray Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Eagle Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful help and care given by the staff at Connection Plus Hospice. The family will receive friends and family after the service at the Eagle Rock Community Center.

Nicolas James Lovelace

Nicolas “Nick” James Lovelace, 49, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2026.

From his roller derby days, “Nick Knack” met Jillian “Patty Whack” on the rink and their lives were forever entangled. When he wasn’t skating, he was surfing, woodburning, cooking, grilling and smoking meats. He also grew exotic peppers, making various salsas and salts. When he wasn’t having fun, he was a skilled electrician running his own operation. Then when Nick had time, he was outdoors enjoying life and catching fish.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Don and Christine Lovelace; maternal grandparents, Ernest and Lois May; mother, Brenda Lovelace; and infant son, Nicolas Wayne Lovelace.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 10 years, Jillian Lovelace; his children, James, Chloe, Leia, and Eliza Lovelace; granddaughter, Ivy Lovelace; father, Wayne Lovelace and step-mother, Cindy; brother, Shannon Lovelace and husband, Michael Anderson; sister, Leann Alford, and husband, Scott; nieces, Kayla (Jonah) Bolton; MacKenzie (Timothy) Bolton; great-nephew, Grayson; and numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 2-4pm on Sunday, November 1, 2026 with memorial services at 4pm at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Pastor Mitch Turner officiating. For those that knew and loved Nick, knew he loved all things 80s from music to movies. To honor him, the family is requesting people to wear your favorite Band or Star Wars T-shirt and jeans. Carl "Lynwood" Rhodes

Carl “Lynwood” Rhodes was born on August 8, 1945, and went to be with Jesus, October 25, 2026, after suffering with Alzheimer for some time.

Lynwood was preceded in death by his father, Rush Rhodes and his precious mother, Ruby Cooper Rhodes; three brothers Joe, Tommy, and Russell, and sister, Myrtha.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Kathy Crowder Rhodes, one son, Jason Lynwood Rhodes and stepdaughter Corinna (Clay) Grogan; as well as two brothers, David (Carolyn) and Jerry (Linda), two sisters, Hazel Rhodes Weathers and Linda Rhodes Smith. Lynwood is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Lynwood loved his family and the mountains he grew up in. He loved deer hunting every year, as well as Nascar and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loved having a day off from the concrete business due to rain.

Lynwood was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served proudly in the U. S. Army.

The family will receive friends from 11:45am-12:30pm before leaving for the graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at Mount Union Cemetery.

Lisa Ann Kelly

Lisa Ann "Chip" Kelly passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026 after a brief battle with leukemia.

Chip graduated from Mary Baldwin College and worked at Carter Machinery before moving to Richmond for several years. She returned to Buchanan and worked at National Business College before joining the staff at Virginia Military Institute. She also worked part-time at Kroger. Chip was a life-long member of Buchanan Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. She volunteered at the Sunflower Festival, the Buchanan Theatre, and the carnival.

Chip was preceded in death by her father, Rex Stevens Kelly, and grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. R.D. Kelly, and Mr. & Mrs. E.P. Sexton. She is survived by her mother, Gay Sexton Kelly, and her sister, Amy Sexton Kelly. She also leaves behind many cousins, special friends, travel companions, and coworkers.

Chip loved concerts and travel, especially cruising and spending vacations at Holden Beach with her beach girls. She had a special love for Hawaii. Chip loved interacting with others, and, much like her father, she never met a stranger. While in the hospital, Chip enjoyed talking with staff, always remembering their names and knowing their life story after her interactions.

Chip's one request was that others celebrate her life rather than mourn her loss. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Buchanan Baptist Church, The Red Cross, or a local food bank of your choice.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the oncology staff at RMH, Good Samaritan Hospice, the church family, special neighbors and cousins, and the girls of the classes of '79 and '83 for all their love and support.

A service will be held on Friday, October 30 at 4:00 p.m. at the Botetourt Funeral Home. A meal will be provided at the event center (next to the funeral home), after the service to allow time for fellowship and visitation. The family will have a private burial. As Chip's favorite color was purple, consider wearing purple in her memory.

Anthony David Yopp

In Loving Memory of Anthony David Yopp

February 18, 1975 – October 17, 2026

Anthony David Yopp, age 51, of Buchanan, Virginia, passed away on October 17, 2026.

Anthony was a graduate of Franklin County High School and worked as a mechanic by trade. He was a man whose life was connected to the people and companions he held dear. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Larry Junior Yopp; his paternal grandparents, Garnett and Eunice Yopp; his maternal grandparents, Jerry Surface and Lina Mitchell; his step-grandmother, Melva Surface; his mother-in-law, Jodi Falsteaux; and his sister, Sherry Yopp Ferguson.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Yvonne Falstreaux Yopp; his mother, Francis (Bruce) Young; his brother, Larry Michael Yopp; his nephew, Joshua Parker; his nieces, April Parker and Stormy Young; his great-nieces, Rylee Parker and Raelynn Parker; his best friend, Eddie Nelson; and his beloved best buddy, Moonpie. As well as numerous Aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Though Anthony’s passing leaves a void in the lives of those who loved him, the memories made, the bonds shared, and the love he leaves behind will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service honoring Anthony’s life will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home in Buchanan, Virginia, with Pastor Gareth Stephenson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Botetourt Funeral Home to help cover funeral expenses.

Rena Worthen

Rena Worthen October 8, 1944 — October 14, 2026

Rena Worthen, of Springwood, died peacefully at her home Wednesday, October 14, 2026. She was 82 years old. She grew up in rural Riner in Montgomery County. She was raised by her great-aunt and great-uncle, Rosa E. and Ballard Jewell, and her mother and stepfather, Margarette J. and Francis M. Tynan. She excelled in high school and joined the Navy afterward.

She eventually moved to Pennsylvania and had a family there. She trained to drive a big rig truck and transported goods all over the country. Later, in the 1990s, she started her career as a Botetourt County librarian. She always had a passion for history though, like her mother. She became a skilled genealogist; people sought her help all the time to learn about their families. She was an important part of local volunteer efforts to preserve history.

She enjoyed seeing her friends at North Star, where she was “the Queen” to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margarette Jewell Tynan and Thurman Roy Baxter, Myrtle A. Tynan, infant sister, and her sister Mary Tynan Kelly. She was widowed by Jerry Southern and Jim Smith.

Rena is survived by her daughter, Melissa Southern Boyer; three siblings: Therese Tynan Powell, Clara Tynan Boggs, and William C. Tynan; grandchildren: Kenneth M. Boyer and Kristin Marie Boyer; as well as her great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to share and remember her at 3 PM Saturday, October 24, 2026 at the Family Life Center of Fincastle United Methodist Church. Remains were cremated, according to her wishes, soon after her passing, and are interred at Philadelphia Memorial Park.

Marshall Stuart Stinnett

Marshall Stuart Stinnett, 86, of Buchanan, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Shelton and Rose Goode Stuart Stinnett.

He was retired from Groendyk with 42 years of service, worked at Wattstull Shell for 20 years, and was a member of the Botetourt Funeral Home staff for many years. In his younger days, he worked at Butch Barger's Grocery in town.

Marshall was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served on numerous committees. He was also the Fire Chief for our Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department and ran the french fry stand at the carnival many years.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years, Susanne Delong Stinnett; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Pam Stinnett; grandson, Austin Stinnett and wife, Jordyn; granddaughter, Erin (Corbin); great-grandchildren, Kayce, Baby Stinnett (in November), Baby Sheleheda (in April). Marshall leaves behind a number of friends and extended family as well as lifelong friends, Lindsey and Brenda Stinnett.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 2pm, November 8, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery.
