Tonight, Upshur County and our surrounding communities were forever changed by devastating flooding. Families were stranded, homes were damaged or lost, vehicles swept away, belongings destroyed, and countless lives were turned upside down in a matter of hours.
In the midst of this tragedy, we witnessed something just as powerful—our first responders. To every firefighter, police officer, EMS provider, dispatcher, emergency management official, public works employee, utility worker, volunteer, and every person who stepped forward to help: thank you. You ran toward danger while others were trying to escape it. Your courage, sacrifice, and selflessness have already made an immeasurable difference, and our community is forever grateful.
Now it’s our turn.
This is the time to check on your neighbors. Help those who have lost everything. Volunteer if you’re able. Donate what you can. Offer a meal, a place to stay, or simply a listening ear. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can mean the world to someone facing their darkest day.
Buckhannon has always been more than a town—we are a family. We don’t let our neighbors face hardship alone. We stand shoulder to shoulder, we lift each other up, and together we will rebuild what was lost. The flood may have tested us, but it will never define us.
As of now, our office plans to remain open. We may be operating with limited staff or without power, but we are committed to serving our patients and our community in every way we can.
The road ahead won’t be easy, but no one will walk it alone.
Together, we will recover. Together, we will rebuild. Together, we will prove that the spirit of this community is stronger than any storm.
