A couple (a few?...time blindness, sorry) weeks ago, we finally opened our Cabinet of Curiosities, and everyone seems to be loving it! So now we’re really excited to introduce our latest addition to TCOB... the Book Nook! 📚

The Book Nook is a curated collection of books and resources that I’ve vetted and often recommend to families and clinicians.

I also know that purchasing all of the books and resources we recommend can add up pretty quickly. So I’ve been scouring bookstores, resale sites, and wherever else I can find them to bring these books to TCOB at more affordable prices.

Most are pre-loved, some are brand new, and I do my best to make sure everything is in great condition. Inventory will change based on what I’m able to find.

One important note: I do my best to carefully vet what we carry, but I’m also human. If you ever come across something in one of these books that feels ableist, harmful, outdated, or just doesn’t sit right, please tell me. I genuinely want to know. You can always email me directly using the contact information on our website.

Peak fall bird migration season is underway in Central Texas, with activity typically reaching its highest levels from mid-August through October. During this time, thousands of birds pass over our region each night as they travel south for the winter.

The City of Buda is a participant in a pilot Dark Skies program that focuses on identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary light pollution through education, outreach, and best practices for outdoor lighting.

Excessive or poorly directed artificial light can confuse migrating birds, drawing them off course and increasing the risk of collisions. Small changes, such as using shielded fixtures, choosing warmer-colored bulbs, and turning off unnecessary lights, can make a meaningful difference for wildlife and our community.

As migration season continues, consider switching off outdoor lights when they're not needed and taking a moment to enjoy Buda's night skies. The birds passing overhead will thank you. 🐦🌙

✨ Our Cabinet of Curiosities is finally open! ✨

We’ve stocked it with some of the fidgets we genuinely love, visual timers and other tools we regularly recommend, along with fun little finds and treasures for curious folks.

We’re also intentionally keeping prices as low as we reasonably can, and in many cases below typical retail prices. We want these things to be more accessible, especially when they’re tools that can actually be useful in everyday life.

What you see now definitely isn’t what it will always look like. Stock will change, new things will rotate in, and we’ll keep adding things as we discover them.

You don’t have to be a TCOB client to shop, so feel free to stop by and take a look!

One important detail: we are cashless, so cards and digital payments only. Sorry, cash friends. 😬

This is just one of quite a few fun changes happening as we settle into our new space. We have more coming, and I can’t wait to share them. ♾️🌈

P.S. I haven’t completely forgotten about the goose. 😂 My dopamine has been flowing from elsewhere lately, but I promise I’ll get back to them soon... including finally sharing their name. 🪿

Therapy Center of Buda is closed today in recognition of the workers who fought for fair wages, reasonable hours, safer workplaces, and the belief that people deserve lives outside of work.

We strive to support our staff in working to live, not living to work. Today is one small way we honor that.

HAYS COUNTY ATTORNEYS, WE NEED YOUR HELP. ❤️

We are reaching out on behalf of a wonderful local family who has experienced a devastating family tragedy.

While grieving and trying to maintain as much stability as possible for the children involved, this family is facing an urgent legal need. They need a family law attorney who can assist with what is expected to be a relatively straightforward, uncontested custody matter in Hays County.

This is a family doing all the right things. The children are loved and being cared for. They simply need the legal piece in place so this family can move forward, focus on healing, and continue caring for the children without this uncertainty hanging over them.

Unfortunately, they have hit wall after wall trying to get help.

The family, and those of us helping them, have contacted numerous attorneys and Legal Aid resources. Calls have gone unreturned, and some resources have required the family to travel to Austin, which is not possible for them.

We desperately need a Hays County family law attorney willing to help.

Ideally, we are looking for someone who can take this matter pro bono or at a significantly reduced rate. If that isn't possible, please don't let the cost stop you from reaching out. We are willing to rally our community and crowdsource the legal fees if we can find the right attorney to help this family.

Because children and a family tragedy are involved, we will not share additional details publicly. The situation is delicate and time-sensitive, and we can provide the appropriate information privately to an attorney who may be able to assist.

I don't usually post about reviews, but one recently reminded me of something much bigger than one person's opinion.

No matter how many specialists I've seen, tests I've had performed, or "treatments" I've had, someone will still decide my disabilities aren't real. Not because they know me, but because they've decided what disability is supposed to look like.

I'm in my late 40s. I have two degrees and numerous clinical specialties. I'm a clinician. I own a business. I help other neurodivergent people and their families every day.

And still, someone who barely knows me can look at what I accomplish, how I communicate (somerimes), or how I present to the world and decide they know my reality better than I do.

And THAT is part of why this work matters so much to me.

A behaviorist lens teaches us to trust what THEY perceive. A neurodiversity-affirming lens asks us to trust lived experience.

Because I don't want the children we support growing up believing they have to prove how hard something is before they're worthy of support. I don't want them spending adulthood defending their neurotype because they learned to mask well, became successful, earned degrees, built careers, or simply don't look like someone's idea of disability.

And I want their parents to know this, too. Believe your child. Listen to them. Look beyond your own perception of their experience.

This work isn't always easy. We're pushing against decades of ideas about what disability should look like and a multibillion-dollar industry built around changing what others can perceive from the outside.

Some days, that is exhausting. Some days, after waking up to a "bad review" I simply don't want to get out of bed. We're people, too. Being questioned, dismissed, or accused because we refuse to participate in a system we believe causes harm takes a toll.

But we shall persist (iykyk).

Because our kids deserve the chance to grow up knowing their reality is real, even when someone else can't see it. ♾️💛💜
