⚠️ 11:35 AM UPDATE ON Tueday's Severe Weather for Iowa ⚠️
All eyes are on the Plains and Upper Midwest later today into tonight, with Iowa potentially on the eastern edge of a significant severe weather setup. 🌪️⛈️
The greatest concern for Iowa appears to be western Iowa, especially if storms can develop or move in from eastern Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, and southwest Minnesota.
Main threats for western Iowa:
🌬️ Damaging winds, potentially 60–80 mph
🌪️ Tornadoes possible, including a lower-confidence but notable risk for stronger tornadoes if discrete storms can form
🧊 Large hail possible, especially early in storm development
⚡ Fast-moving storm lines may develop and race eastward later today/tonight
The environment near eastern Nebraska into western Iowa may become very unstable, with any mature storms capable of producing all severe hazards. Confidence is still lower on exactly where storms initiate, but the setup is one to take seriously.
📍 Highest Iowa concern: western Iowa
⏰ Timing: late afternoon into tonight, depending on storm development and movement
Now is the time to review your severe weather plan:
✅ Know where you would shelter
✅ Have multiple ways to receive warnings
✅ Charge phones and weather radios
✅ Do not rely on outdoor sirens alone
Stay weather-aware today, especially across western Iowa. We’ll continue to monitor trends closely. 🌩️
