The Fourth of July can be stressful for individuals with PTSD or mental health conditions. To cope, recognize your triggers, acknowledge your feelings, and prioritize your mental health over social expectations. Spread awareness: educate yourself and others about the impact of fireworks on individuals with PTSD and other mental health conditions. Be respectful: be mindful of those who may be struggling and offer support and understanding. Always be safe, and have a happy Fourth of July 🇺🇸!

In 1990, when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law, a special flag was created to celebrate and represent individuals with disabilities. Each color on the flag has a distinct meaning. Black represents the barriers and darkness faced by people with disabilities. Green symbolizes sensory disabilities. Yellow represents neurodiversity, cognitive, and intellectual disabilities. White represents invisible and undiagnosed disabilities. Red represents physical disabilities. Blue represents psychiatric and emotional disabilities. Gold also represents neurodiversity. At the Kanter Center, we believe it is essential to treat everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of their disability, s*xual orientation, or gender. We promote spreading kindness, not hate.

In 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, received word that their freedom had been granted two years after Abraham Lincoln delivered his Emancipation Proclamation speech. A Union Army general conveyed the news of their freedom. In 2021, Juneteenth became a federal holiday. Juneteenth has become a day of service for many. Today, at the Kanter Center, we will be collecting canned goods for a local food pantry. If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].

Gilbert Baker, an artist, activist, and openly gay military veteran, created the seminal Gilbert Pride Flag in 1977 at the behest of Harvey Milk. The original eight-color rainbow flag, inspired by 'Over the Rainbow,' represented the LGBTQ+ community, with each color having specific significance.

Hot Pink symbolizes s*x

Green represents nature|
Turquoise equals magic & art
Indigo stands for serenity
Violet represents the spirit of LGBTQ people.
