Not every spot is a problem, but some are worth a closer look.

UBMD physicians often use the ABCDE rule to evaluate moles: asymmetry, border, color, diameter, and evolving over time.

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers, but when caught early, it’s highly treatable.

If something looks or feels different, it’s worth getting checked.

Conditions like urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and chronic pelvic pain are more common in women than people realize... and it often goes unspoken.

Many women assume it’s just part of aging or childbirth, but it’s not always something you have to live with.

UBMD Obstetrics and Gynecology provides care and treatment options to help women feel more comfortable and supported.

If something feels off, it’s worth having the conversation.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to recognize that changes in memory, behavior, and daily functioning can sometimes point to underlying cognitive or mental health conditions, including early dementia.

That doesn’t mean assuming the worst. But it does mean paying attention to patterns.

Starting the conversation early (and involving a healthcare provider) can help families understand what’s normal, what’s not, and what support may be helpful.

When is anxiety more than just stress and a sign to seek help?

Anxiety may be worth checking in on when it starts to interfere with daily life, including:

▸ Feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities
▸ Dreading the day ahead or avoiding social situations and new opportunities
▸ Losing patience easily or feeling unusually irritable
▸ Constantly worrying about the future instead of living in the moment
▸ Trouble sleeping or waking up already feeling anxious

If these experiences are persistent and feel unmanageable, reaching out for help can make a real difference. Talking with a primary care provider or a psychiatrist can open the door to effective options, including therapy, medication, or a combination of both.

"Many people worry that starting medication means they'll be on it forever — but for many, it's simply a support while they build coping skills, and are able to come off it later." — Dr. Joshna Singh, UBMD Psychiatry

If you feel like your anxiety is overwhelming you, talk to your primary care physician or call the Center for Advanced Psychiatry at 716.835.1246.

Motherhood changes your health in ways that don’t always get talked about.

This Mother's Day, let's give a hand to the mothers who sacrifice so much, and remind them that their health matters just as much as those they care for. 💐

Happy Mother's Day!

Today is National Nurses Day.⚕️

A lot of what nurses do doesn’t happen in obvious ways.

It’s in the moments most patients never see, but have the most impact in their care.

Today, we recognize the role nurses play in every patient experience, big and small, noticed and unnoticed. We see you.

When stroke symptoms happen, every single second matters.

That’s why the FAST framework is so important. 🚨 Commit it to memory and save this post.

Behind the scenes, care is highly coordinated and time-sensitive.

In Western New York, UB Neurosurgery has built a nationally recognized program in cerebrovascular care. The department’s legacy includes leaders like the late Dr. Nelson "Nick" Hopkins, whose work helped shape modern stroke treatment and trained generations of specialists now practicing around the world.

That expertise continues today through a network of physicians delivering advanced stroke care close to home. We're very lucky to have these experts here in Buffalo.

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is one of the most common gastrointestinal conditions, and one of the most misunderstood.

It’s not just “sensitive stomach.” It’s a real, chronic condition that affects how the gut functions.

Common symptoms can include:
• Abdominal pain or cramping
• Bloating
• Constipation, diarrhea, or both
• Changes in bowel habits

And while IBS doesn’t cause permanent damage to the digestive tract, it can significantly impact day-to-day quality of life.

That’s where specialized care matters.

At UBMD Physicians' Group, the Gastroenterology Division focuses on diagnosing and managing conditions like IBS — along with a wide range of digestive and nutritional disorders.

What that care looks like:
• Comprehensive evaluation of symptoms and underlying causes
• Access to advanced testing, including colonoscopy and endoscopy when needed
• Personalized treatment plans to manage symptoms and improve quality of life
• Expertise across the full digestive system, from the stomach to the intestines and liver
