We were saddened to hear of Gloria Steinem's passing yesterday. Gloria was a Jewish journalist, feminist, and activist who remained active for the entirety of her life. Known for her passion for and dedication to the feminist movement, Steinem's work was certainly Resolute and Purpose Driven, and she was a Mensch above all. May her memory be a blessing to all who need it.

Fresh, local produce makes a huge difference in cooking and eating well. Janelle Thiessen, the Jewish Federation Apartments Service Coordinator, has been able to secure the FeedMore WNY farm truck to bring fresh, local produce directly to the Federation apartments. On the first day, over 40 people purchased fresh produce! The farm truck will continue to make visits to residents year-round, providing them with the opportunity to purchase fresh produce at an affordable price. Residents can even utilize SNAP benefits to receive 50% off, making this a truly accessible collaboration.

Gardening promotes wellness not only physically by providing fresh food, but mentally, too! JFS’ Community Enrichment Team led a wellness gardening event with a group of local women. We talked about soil testing, safe fertilizer application, raised garden beds, shared stories about group members’ gardening experience, and created container gardens to take home that included tomato and lettuce seedlings.

Thanks to The Tool Library, we were even able to auction off a year-long membership, allowing the lucky winner to ‘rent’ gardening tools for free for a year.
