You do not have to carry grief, trauma, or overwhelming emotions alone. 🤎

If you or someone you love needs support, there are people ready to listen.

📞 Crisis Services: 716-834-3131

Reaching out for help can feel difficult, especially when you’re already carrying so much. But you don’t need to have the “right” words or know exactly what you need before making the call.

Sometimes, the first step is simply saying: “I need someone to talk to.”

Support is available. You are worthy of care. And you do not have to navigate difficult moments alone.

Pause for a moment and check in with yourself. 🤎

Not “How productive have I been?” or “How much did I get done?” but, "How am I, really?"

Ask yourself:

💭 What emotion have I been feeling most often lately?
🫶🏾 What does my body need from me today?
⚡ What has been draining my energy?
✨ What has been giving me energy?
💬 Is there something I’ve been carrying that I need to talk about?
🤎 Who is one person I feel safe reaching out to?

You don’t have to solve everything today. Sometimes, the first step is simply slowing down long enough to notice what you need.

Consider this your reminder to check in with yourself as intentionally this week.

You don’t need to have the perfect words to support someone who is struggling. 🤎

Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is simply let someone know they don’t have to carry everything alone.

Try:

💬 “I’m here if you want to talk.”
Listen without immediately trying to fix the problem.

🤎 “What would feel supportive right now?”
Ask instead of assuming what they need.

📲 “Can I check in with you again tomorrow?”
Support doesn’t have to end after one conversation.

🫶🏾 “You don’t have to go through this alone.”
If they’re open to it, help them connect with additional support or a mental health professional.

And remember: supporting someone does not mean you have to have all the answers. Sometimes, showing up with compassion, patience, and consistency is enough.

Racial trauma is real, and you are not “too sensitive” for being affected by it.
Experiencing racism directly, witnessing violence against the Black community, repeatedly seeing traumatic images in the news, or carrying the cumulative weight of discrimination can affect your emotional and physical well-being.

You may notice:

🖤 Anger or sadness
🖤 Anxiety or feeling constantly on alert
🖤 Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
🖤 Emotional numbness
🖤 Exhaustion or feeling overwhelmed

There is no single “right” response to trauma. Give yourself permission to step away from upsetting content, lean on people who make you feel safe, rest when you need to, and seek professional support if what you’re carrying feels too heavy to hold alone.

Your response is valid. Your mental health matters. And you deserve support that sees and understands you.

A gentle reminder for anyone who needs it today: you do not have to earn your rest. 🤎

In a world that can make us feel like our worth is tied to how much we accomplish, slowing down can feel uncomfortable. But rest is not laziness—and taking a break does not mean you’re falling behind.

Rest can look like:

😴 Getting the sleep your body needs
📵 Stepping away from your phone and the news
🙅🏾‍♀️ Saying “no” without over-explaining
🌿 Spending time somewhere you feel safe and grounded
🤎 Allowing yourself to simply be without needing to produce

Your body and mind deserve care even when the to-do list isn’t finished.

✨ Process something that’s been weighing on you
✨ Understand patterns in your thoughts or relationships
✨ Develop healthier ways to cope with stress
✨ Navigate grief, anger, anxiety, or major life changes
✨ Simply have a safe space to talk and be heard

You are allowed to seek support before you reach your breaking point.

Taking care of your mental health is not a sign that something is wrong with you. It’s one way of taking care of yourself, and you deserve that care.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, here are simple ways to manage daily stress:

💤 Prioritize self-care by putting sleep, balanced meals, hydration, and movement first — these habits fuel your body and mind, making it easier to cope with daily challenges.

🧘‍♀️ Try stress relief techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or journaling — these techniques help calm your nervous system and provide mental clarity.

✅ Stay organized and prioritize with lists and realistic goals — this reduces feelings of heightened emotions and helps you stay focused and productive.

💬 Strengthen your support systems by leaning on friends, family, or a professional — having someone to talk to can ease anxiety and remind you that you’re not alone.

📵 Create healthy boundaries — limiting screen time and protecting your personal time gives your mind the space it needs to recharge.

Small steps can make a big impact on your mental well-being.

In the wake of heartbreaking events over the weekend, it's normal to feel a wide range of emotions, even if you weren't directly affected. Grief, fear, anger, sadness, confusion, or simply feeling emotionally drained are all valid responses to community violence.

If you're navigating loss or trying to support someone who is, here are a few gentle reminders:

🤍 There is no "right" way to grieve. Everyone processes loss differently, and healing doesn't follow a timeline.

🤍 Hold space without trying to fix it. Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can say is, "I'm here with you." Presence often matters more than having the perfect words.

🤍 Give yourself grace. It's okay if you're finding it difficult to focus, feeling overwhelmed, or needing extra rest. Your mind and body are responding to something heavy.

🤍 Stay connected. Lean on trusted friends, family, your community, or a mental health professional. You don't have to carry difficult emotions alone.

In moments like these, compassion matters. For ourselves. For our neighbors. For everyone carrying a burden we may not be able to see.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reaching out for support is a sign of strength. BestSelf Behavioral Health is here for our community. 💙

Supporting youth exposed to gun violence requires a trauma-informed approach.

This means recognizing the impact of stress and trauma while creating environments where young people feel safe, supported, and empowered.

Healing, connection, and prevention go hand-in-hand.
