Alright, time to talk sun!
We've been seeing a lot of it lately, finally! But do you know how important wearing sunglasses really is?
When we think of the primary reason to wear sunglasses we’ll often come to “UV Protection.” Chronic exposure to direct sunlight can lead to a host of eye issues throughout all parts of the eye.
The question is what type of sunglasses should we be looking for? Look for sunglasses that say they offer 99-100% UVA/UVB protection or UV 400 protection. Also, if your eye wear says “sunglasses” then they legally must contain some degree of UV protection, while other glasses with titles like “sun blockers,” “sun wear” or “eye wear” do not.
Now, sunglasses are absolutely important to be wearing, but we actually do not want to wear them 100% of the time. Think of your eyes like your skin—both need some degree of sunlight exposure to maintain optimum health.
You want to look to avoid is direct sunlight, that's the most damaging. While outside, try to wear a hat, sunvisor, or hang out in partial shade, so that you can obtain the benefits of the sun without directly looking into the light!
And remember, a vital part of maintaining your health and wellness is to get adjusted!
