Series: The Hill I’ll Stand On #5…
A normal blood count does not automatically mean your iron status is normal.
Iron stores can become depleted before blood counts drops enough to meet the definition of anemia. That may show up as fatigue, hair shedding, brain fog, restless legs, headaches, feeling cold, or reduced stamina.
The irony? 😆 Iron deficiency can look a lot like hormone deficiency.
Iron is needed for oxygen transport, cellular energy, brain and nervous-system function, healthy hair growth, and enzymes involved in thyroid-hormone production.
This does not mean everyone with these symptoms needs iron—or that anyone should supplement blindly.
It means ferritin and iron studies may deserve a closer look, followed by one important question:
🧐 Why are the iron stores low?
🩸 Sometimes the answer is heavy periods.
🥗 Sometimes it is nutrition, poor absorption, blood donation, or another source of blood loss.
🩸 Normal hemoglobin is only part of the story.
👀 Not every “hormone symptom” is caused by hormones.
