🚨 WOULD YOU RECOGNIZE CARDIAC ARREST?

Knowing the signs of cardiac arrest could help you know when to act.
Here are 3 important things to look for:

❤️ 1. UNRESPONSIVEThe person doesn't respond when you try to wake them or speak to them.

❤️ 2. NOT BREATHING NORMALLYThey aren't breathing normally or are only gasping.

🚨 3. ACT FASTCall 911, start CPR, and use an AED if one is available.

When cardiac arrest happens, every moment matters. Knowing what to look for and having the confidence to respond can make a difference.

You don't have to be a healthcare professional to learn CPR. You can learn. You can prepare. You can be ready to respond. ❤️

At Hands to Heart CPR, we're here to help you build the skills and confidence to respond when it matters most.

🤔 MYTH OR FACT?

❤️ ANSWER: MYTH!

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is designed to be used by everyday people, even without medical training. AEDs provide voice and visual instructions to guide you through each step during an emergency.

You don't have to be a healthcare professional to make a difference. Knowing what to do in an emergency can help save a life!

World First Aid Day: Why First Aid Skills Are Important

The importance of first aid skills training

Many medical emergencies require quick action from a trained bystander to save a person’s life.

For example, workplace accidents can quickly lead to shock if immediate steps aren’t taken to control severe bleeding. Alternatively, a severe allergic reaction can become deadly within minutes without treatment (e.g., epinephrine autoinjector).

Additionally, there might be times when internet access is limited, such as during a natural disaster.

Therefore, you shouldn’t solely rely on finding and understanding the first aid resources you need in the chaos of the moment.

First aid certified people have the training to provide appropriate first aid care for everyday life, as well as during life-threatening situations where professional help from emergency services might be delayed.

Full CPR, AED and First Aid training gives students the knowledge and confidence to respond to a variety of medical emergencies. This includes but isn’t limited to:

Sudden cardiac arrest
Heart attack or stroke
Seizure
Choking relief
Diabetic medical emergency
Asthma attacks
Burns
Eye injuries
Poisoning
Heat and cold emergencies

CPR, AED and First Aid training courses teach simple techniques to provide medical assistance for adults, children and infants.

The most common degrees of burns are labeled as:

First-degree burns. Superficial burns that affect the top layer of skin, also called epidermis (e.g., mild sunburn).

Second-degree burns. Mild to moderate burn injury that damages the top and inner layers of the skin (epidermis and dermis).

Third-degree burns. Severe injury that destroys all layers of skin and subcutaneous tissue.

However, there are additional classifications of burns that are considered medical emergencies that can have serious consequences as they can cause significant or permanent damage to the tendons, nerves, muscles, and bones.

Taking a CPR and First Aid class can prepare you for an emergency situation. Make sure you know what to do and how to quickly get the victim the proper help when needed.

Burn injuries are among the most common household and workplace accidents, and they can vary widely in severity. Understanding the different types of burns — thermal, chemical, and electrical — and knowing the appropriate treatment for each is crucial for effective first aid and medical care.

The basics of burns:

A burn is an injury to skin, and possible underlying tissues, caused by an exposure to extreme heat, chemicals, or electrical contact. The severity of the burn is related to its depth and size. Deeper burns that result in blistering or broken skin are more severe. Additionally, larger burns — even those with a shallow depth — are also more serious.
