Fibroid myths debunked! Let's set the record straight about uterine fibroids.

Myth: Fibroids are rare.

Truth: Actually, up to 77% of women may develop fibroids at some point in their lives. They're far more common than many people realize, yet conversations about them remain surprisingly quiet.

Myth: There are no minimally invasive treatment options for fibroids.

Truth: Virginia Mason Franciscan Health already offers minimally invasive fibroid treatments in Seattle and Gig Harbor — and we're excited to announce expanded access coming soon to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, bringing advanced care to even more of our communities.

If you're dealing with fibroids or suspect you might have them, don't assume surgery is your only option. Schedule an appointment with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health to discuss treatment options tailored to your needs and goals.

This August, we are celebrating 10 years of the St. Joseph Medical Center Midwifery Birthing Center! Meet Kate Runn, RN, who shares why she's passionate about supporting families during birth.

"I love my role at the Midwifery Birthing Center because every day I’m surrounded by people who believe what I believe—that birth works. Women don’t come here because they need someone to rescue them; they come because they already have everything they need. My job is simply to remind them of that.

I often tell the families I care for, “I never doubted your ability for a moment. I’m just the cruise director helping you get to your destination.” I mean it every single time. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a woman discover just how strong, capable, and powerful she has always been.

After every shift, I practice a mindfulness exercise on my drive home: I think of five good reasons I was away from my own children that night. If it’s been a night at the Midwifery Birthing Center, I can always find those five reasons without hesitation. Every birth I witness, every family I encourage, every woman who leaves believing in herself a little more—that’s why.

Watching babies be born is incredible. Watching women become themselves is unforgettable. That’s why I love what I do."
