Bob and I spend a lot of emotional energy hoping and waiting for a kidney donor match. We also spend time thinking about life after a transplant. One of the many side effects of hemodialysis is exhaustion, described by most patients as feeling wiped out. Dialysis forces the heart to work harder due to rapid fluid shifts within a short amount of time (4 hours) in order to clean the blood and remove extra fluids and toxins. And, most dialysis patients are anemic adding to the fatigue. We need to find a kidney donor as soon as possible not just to improve Bob's quality of life but also to protect Bob's heart. Message From Bob:

Hello Friends...It's Bob. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for following my kidney donor page. I feel incredibly blessed by the love, encouragement, and support I've received from Stephanie, my children, and all of you as I continue on this journey. Here’s an update on my current situation:

Between being on dialysis twelve hours a week, and recovering during the time in between, kidney disease has been controlling my life for more than a year. I'm thankful that dialysis has been keeping me alive as I search for a living kidney donor, but it takes a toll on my body, mind and spirit.

What keeps me going is my hope that someone will come forward soon, and share their spare. This will offer me a new lease on life. Again, thanks so much for following my page, and for your kind words and compassion. Please continue to share my kidney donor page, and keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

It still feels strange to be asking for help so publicly (T-shirts coming soon!) for something so personal, but we know this type of outreach has helped so many kidney patients around the world find their donors.
