After a stroke, recovery often gets framed as physical. Strength. Range. Movement.
But many people who have lived through it recognize that the mental side can be just as significant.

Mindfulness isn't a substitute for therapy. It's something that sits alongside it. Breathing exercises that lower the noise. Quiet moments that bring you back to the room. Small habits that make the hard days feel a little more manageable.

Recovery is whole-person work. Swipe through for a closer look at how the mental and physical sides connect.

For many survivors, one of the most challenging moments comes during recovery, when expectations for function are uncertain.

Dave was a fixer.

A veteran of the Maryland Army National Guard. The hands-on owner of a thriving HVAC company. A father of five. A woodworker who built things with his hands every chance he got.

Then on January 30, 2011, a stroke affected movement on his right side. At 61, he stepped away from his business. His tools sat untouched.

“I was crawling under houses earlier that day. Then somebody turns the switch off and says, you’re not going to do that anymore.”

For six years, he continued with rehabilitation. Then an occupational therapist suggested he try the MyoPro®.

“Before MyoPro®, my arm was just there. Now I can get it to do the things I want it to do.”*

Today, Dave spends time back in his workshop, creating handcrafted walking canes for people living with limited limb use. He made 20 in the first four months after receiving his device.

“If anybody says you can’t get something back that you lost years ago, that’s not always the case. It can take time and effort.”*

Dave’s story reflects one individual’s experience. Individual results may vary.
