Pre-planning doesn't have to be overwhelming. Start by asking yourself these 7 questions:

1. What service do I want?
2. Where do I want my final resting place to be?
3. What kind of service feels right: traditional, celebration of life, or something in between?
4. Is there music, readings, or a location that's meaningful to me?
5. Who do I want involved in the planning?
6. Have I told my family what I want?
7. Is there anything I definitely don't want?

You don't need all the answers right now. But starting the conversation, even with yourself, is the first step.

Meet Rob,

Rob Akers-Trevett, a native of Southwestern Virginia, began his carrier in the funeral profession in 1991. Rob knew at a very young age he wanted to be of service to families in their time of need.

Upon graduating mortuary college in 1994, Rob served families in Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. After 31 years of helping families in their time of need, he transitioned into his current role as an Advanced Funeral Planner. Rob now guides families through the many decisions that have to be made for their future funeral arrangements.

“Being a caregiver has always been something that came natural to me. Assisting families with some of the hardest decisions they will ever have to make is not something I take lightly. It’s a process that has to be done with great care and attention to detail.”

Rob enjoys spending time with family, travel and time with his spouse and their three dogs, Preston, Penny, and Rook.

One of the most common misconceptions we hear: "If I choose cremation, there's no funeral."

That's not true.

Cremation is simply what happens to the body. It doesn't dictate whether or how you gather. You can still have a memorial service, a viewing, a graveside ceremony, a celebration of life, or a private family gathering. Some families hold services before cremation, some after, some both.

Cremation gives you flexibility, not fewer options.
