The hands are the instruments of human intelligence. ✨ Watch a child with pine needles, grass seeds, and leaves, and you aren’t just seeing play—you’re witnessing a scientist at work. Transferring, pouring, squeezing... testing every imaginary hypothesis they have about the world. 🪵🍂

Dirt on their hands, joy in their hearts, and room to grow. 🌲✨
Welcome to Great Pines Forest School in Burlington, MA—where nature is our teacher and the outdoors is our classroom! We specialize in hands-on, nature-based early education for toddlers and preschoolers ages 1 to 5 years old.
We know that young children learn best when they can touch, splash, and discover. That’s why our days are packed with:
💦 Water play that sparks curiosity and physics concepts.
🪵 Sand and mud kitchens** for ultimate sensory development.
🌱 A thriving garden where children connect directly with the earth.
🌲 Endless outdoor adventures that build confidence and resilience.
Standard daycares often struggle to give toddlers individualized attention outdoors. At Great Pines, we maintain an exceptional 1:3 teacher-to-child ratio. This means your child gets the absolute highest standard of safety, emotional support, and guided discovery as they explore the world around them.
Let them climb, let them splash, let them grow wild and wise. 🪵🦅
✨ Spaces are strictly limited to maintain our intimate 1:3 ratio. 🔗 Click the link in our bio to learn more about our philosophy and secure a spot on our tour list for this season!

We were honored to welcome 18 dedicated educators from Tree House Academy for a meaningful bilingual professional development experience 🌿

Lucy and Eliana from Great Pines Forest School, a nature-inspired, play-based program in Burlington, Massachusetts, led a rich and engaging conversation centered on child brain development and the power of play.

Together, we explored how to thoughtfully design environments that invite deep, meaningful play—spaces where children can thrive while developing essential skills such as executive function, symbolic thinking, theory of mind, and metacognition. Through intentional “play invitations,” educators can nurture curiosity, independence, and flexible thinking in young learners.

Foi um prazer compartilhar este espaço de aprendizagem em dois idiomas, criando conexões e reflexões profundas sobre como apoiar o desenvolvimento integral das crianças por meio do brincar.

Thank you to all the educators who participated with such openness and enthusiasm. Your commitment to growth and to the children you serve is truly inspiring 🌱

Tiny fingers reach… and touch sand for the very first time.

Inside this one-year-old brain, sparks of discovery begin. New textures send signals racing—soft, grainy, shifting. What is this? the brain wonders.

Connections form instantly—learning cause and effect, building coordination, shaping curiosity. Every movement strengthens tiny neural pathways, laying the foundation for how they’ll explore the world.

Here at Great Pine’s First School, even the smallest moments become powerful beginnings—where nature, touch, and wonder grow the mind from the very first handful.
