Remembering Sister Helen Brewer, D.C., a devoted Daughter of Charity whose nearly two decades of service helped shape healthcare in Austin and Central Texas.

After arriving in Austin in 1997, Sister Helen advocated for children and families during the creation of CHIP, helping expand access to Medicaid and healthcare coverage for vulnerable children across Texas. She also served as a leader and longtime chair of the Seton Board, supporting patients and associates, engaging the community and advancing Ascension’s mission to serve all, especially those most vulnerable.

Her ministry carried forward the legacy of the Daughters of Charity, who established Seton Infirmary in Austin in 1902. Today, that legacy continues through Ascension Seton.

Not every thyroid nodule requires surgery—and now patients have another option.

John Sabra, MD, FACS, board-certified general surgeon, performed Ascension Seton Hays' first radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedure for a benign thyroid nodule.

RFA is a minimally invasive treatment that offers select patients with benign thyroid nodules a non-surgical option to help relieve symptoms while preserving the thyroid gland.

As we continue to expand access to advanced Endocrine Surgery care, we're proud to offer innovative treatment options that help patients make informed decisions about their health.

Pregnancy can tell us a lot about a woman’s future heart health. ❤️

We’re proud to work alongside the American Heart Association - Texas and Go Red for Women to help more Central Texas moms understand the connection between pregnancy and lifelong cardiovascular health.

If you’ve experienced gestational diabetes, keep the conversation going with your doctor — even after baby arrives.

➡️ Learn more about women’s heart care at Ascension Seton: https://healthcare.ascension.org/locations/texas/txaus/ascension-texas-cardiovascular/our-team

Did you know gestational diabetes can increase a woman's lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease? Nearly 1 in 13 births is affected by gestational diabetes - and thousands of Austin families are affected each year.

Pregnancy can reveal important clues about future heart health. If you've had gestational diabetes, talk with your healthcare team about your long-term risk - and share this info with the moms in your life. Because when moms take care of their health, families are stronger.

The My Health is Our Health campaign is locally supported by Ascension Seton.
