Let’s talk about infant torticollis 💪👶
Torticollis sounds scary, but it’s actually a pretty common finding in babies. The good news is, when we catch it early, we can make progress so much faster.
When a baby has torticollis, one side of their neck is tighter than the other, which can make them favor turning their head one way or tilting to one side. Over time, this can affect how they move, play, and even how their head shape develops. Head shape isn’t just about having level ears for your glasses or hat to sit on straight. It also impacts brain development.
✨ Early treatment = faster progress.
Once we help baby access their full range of motion and pair that with functional movement (rolling, reaching, playing on both sides), things start to click quickly. The earlier we start, the easier it is for baby to build those balanced muscle patterns, and the less likely we are to see flat spots develop.
🚀 But here’s something most parents don’t get told:
Even when things are going great, growth spurts can cause temporary regressions. Suddenly baby’s head turn looks tighter again or tummy time feels harder. This is normal! Their little bodies are growing and changing so fast.
When you know to expect it, you can meet it with confidence, using the same stretches, positions, and play strategies you’ve already practiced. With consistency, they’ll push through those tough spots and keep progressing beautifully.
Every baby’s timeline is different, but with early support, patience, and practice, most little ones make amazing gains. 🌿
