Don’t have a car seat yet? Come see us anyway! Depending on your family’s needs, you may be eligible for our free car seat program. Our team can talk with you about the program, answer questions, and help make sure your little one has a safe seat for the road.

We’ll also be joined by the Bookmobile and Honey Hive Coffee, so come grab a coffee, check out some books, and join us for a fun day focused on keeping our kiddos safe! 📚☕👶

A safe sleep space can help reduce your baby’s risk of sleep-related death. Remember the ABCs of safe sleep...place your baby:

🛏️ (C)-In a safety-approved Crib or bassinet
Keep the sleep space firm, flat, and free of blankets, pillows, toys, crib bumpers, and other loose items. Practice safe sleep for every nap and every night!

September is Baby Safety Month!

Stop by the Yancey County Health Department for our drive-through Car Seat Safety Check on Tuesday, September 22, from 1:00–4:30 p.m.

Our certified car seat technicians will check your child’s car seat installation, answer your questions, and share helpful safety tips. Everyone who participates will also be entered into a raffle to win a FREE car seat!

No appointment is needed, just drive through and let us help keep your little one safe on the road! 👶💙

New Beginnings is a mom and baby group hosted at the Yancey Public Library by Postpartum Doula Molly Rouse.

Iris Rountree, our Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, will be attending Sept 11, Oct 23rd, and December 18th to speak about breastfeeding and answer questions related to WIC's breastfeeding support.

This is a great opportunity to meet other moms who are pregnant or with new babies! We hope to see you there!

This September, we’re challenging Step Up Yancey participants to walk with a friend, family member, coworker, or neighbor at least 3 times during the month.

Your walk can be anywhere! Walk around your neighborhood, at a local park, on a trail, during lunch, or anywhere you enjoy getting your steps in.

Please see the link below in regard to recent measles exposures in Buncombe and Henderson counties‼️

Measles is a respiratory disease that is spread through the air by coughing and sneezing. It can also be transmitted through contact with secretions from the nose or mouth of an infected person. The virus can live for up to two hours in the air where the infected person was present. Symptoms of measles usually begin 7-14 days after exposure, but can appear up to 21 days after exposure and may include:

-High fever (may spike to more than 104 degrees)
-Cough
-Runny nose
-Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
-Tiny white spots on the inner cheeks, gums and roof of the mouth (Koplik Spots) two to three days after symptoms begin
-A rash that is red, raised, blotchy; usually starts on face, spreads to trunk, arms and legs three to five days after symptoms begin

Measles can be prevented by the combination MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine. The MMR vaccine is highly effective at preventing measles, and it is recommended that all adults and children one year and older be up to date on their measles vaccine.
