June is PTSD Awareness Month
Trauma can affect anyone. PTSD is a mental health condition that may develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. While PTSD is often associated with military service, it can also impact survivors of abuse, violence, accidents, loss, medical trauma, first responders, healthcare workers, and many others.
PTSD may present in different ways, including intrusive memories, anxiety, hypervigilance, difficulty sleeping, emotional numbness, and avoidance of reminders associated with traumatic experiences. These symptoms can affect relationships, daily functioning, physical health, and recovery from substance use disorders.
The good news is that healing is possible. With the right support, treatment, and resources, individuals can learn healthy coping skills, build resilience, and move forward with hope.
This month, we encourage our community to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and support those affected by trauma. Recovery is not about forgetting the past—it is about learning that the past does not have to define the future.
Trauma may be part of your story. Healing can be part of your future.
If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, mental health concerns, or co-occurring challenges, help is available.
